Geely Auto, China’s second-largest carmaker, released its assisted driving tech on Monday. It said it would be available on all models of its brands, including Galaxy, Zeekr, and Lynk&Co.

G-Pilot is available in five variants with top trim levels supporting multiple lidars, city street driving and door-to-door navigation without HD maps.

Galaxy is Geely’s former series, which was promoted to a brand, incorporating the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC), which makes famous black cabs for London.

G-Pilot was revealed in five variants, offering automatic parking, highway and city streets driving assistance, and door-to-door NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) without HD maps. The top trim H9 supports L3 autonomous driving with AI capabilities, Geely said.

Here is the list of the G-Pilot functions:

  • G-Pilot H1
    • Automatic parking assistance, highway NOA
    • Hardware: 10 cameras, 5 millimeter-wave radars
  • G-Pilot H3
    • Automatic parking assistance, highway NOA, city streets NOA
    • Hardware: 10 cameras, 3 millimeter-wave radars
  • G-Pilot H5
    • Automatic parking assistance, highway NOA, city streets NOA, door-to-door navigation without HD maps
    • Hardware: 11 cameras, 3 millimte-wae radars, 1 lidar
  • G-Pilot H7
    • The same as H5, but with more “AI capabilities”, enabling it to evolve over time
  • G-Pilot H9
    • L3 autonomous driving “in the future,” with “full scenario door-to-door self-driving experience”
    • Hardware: 13 cameras, 3 millimeter-wave radars, multiple lidars

In a virtual briefing, Geely launched its first car equipped with G-Pilot. Geely Galaxy E8 all-electric sedan starts at 149,800 yuan (20,500 USD) and is equipped with G-Pilot H1 entry level solution with automatic parking assistance and highway autopilot.

On February 10, BYD launched its God’s Eye driving assistance system for its entire lineup, including the BYD Seagull hatchback, which costs 69,800 yuan (9,500 USD) in China. BYD claimed they want to democratize “smart driving” and offer assisted driving tech even to the cheapest EVs at no additional cost.

Last week, Tesla launched “FSD” in China, joining the assisted-driving bandwagon, which is dominated mainly by Huawei and Xpeng. Unlike BYD’s God’s Eye, Tesla “FSD” cost 64,000 yuan (8,800 USD) in China.
