On February 17, BYD’s upcoming Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) Bao 5 Intelligent Driving Edition’s withholding price was exposed, namely, the Max and Ultra trims, according to the Chinese social media Dongchedi.

  • Max: 249,800 yuan (34,400 USD)
  • Ultra: 269,800 yuan (37,200 USD)

The Ultra trim is expected to be equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS while it’s not clear yet whether the Max trim will be equipped with the Huawei system or BYD’s self-developed “God’s Eye” solution. For comparison, the official price range of the FCB Bao 5 currently on sale is 239,800 – 302,800 yuan (33,000 – 42,000 USD).

The withholding price is the amount that dealers pay when ordering the cars from the manufacturer. Then, any excess difference will be refunded after the official price is announced.

Currently, some dealers are already accepting reservations. The official launch is likely in March. It is worth pointing out that the FCB Bao 5 Intelligent Driving Edition was declared by the Chinese MIIT earlier in December and the real car was spied in October last year.

The obvious differences between the Intelligent Driving Edition and the current trims on sale are the addition of the roof lidar and the numerous sensors around the body, including a camera compact module in the front windshield, side cameras on the fenders on both sides, side mirror cameras, and cameras at the rear high-mounted brake lights.

The dimensions remain unchanged, with a nominal length, width, and height of 4890/1970/1920 mm, and a wheelbase of 2800 mm. The length is increased to 4930 mm when including the 275/55 R20 spare tire.

Power continues to come from the current 1.5T plug-in hybrid system with a dual-motor combination, outputting a total power of 505 kW (677 hp) and peak torque of 760 Nm, having a 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time of 4.8 seconds, a CLTC pure electric range of 125 km, and a comprehensive range of 1200 km.

In January, the FCB Bao 5 was the second best-selling hardcore off-road SUV in China with 3,210 units sold.
