BYD will add Sealion 7 EV to South African market this year
The BYD Sealion 7 (known as the Sealion 07 EV in China) will land in the South African market this year. Currently, BYD sells three models in South Africa, namely, the BYD Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal; with three successive additions: Shark 6, Sealion 6, and Sealion 7 to be added subsequently. At this time, BYD has not revealed the price tag and official launch date.
About the BYD Sealion 07 EV
The BYD Sealion 07 EV was first launched on May 10 last year in China as the first medium-sized pure electric SUV under the brand’s Ocean Series, available in four trims with a price range of 189,800 – 239,800 yuan (26,100 – 33,000 USD). The EV adopts the latest family design based on the BYD Ocean X concept car and has dimensions of 4830/1925/1620 mm with a 2930 mm wheelbase. The vehicle’s curb weight ranges from 2155 kg to 2330 kg, depending on the trims, and the minimum turning radius is 5.85 m.
Additionally, there are 12 ultrasonic radars, five millimeter-wave radars, and 11 cameras to power its DiPilot 100 advanced driving assistance system. The five-link rear suspension system and variable damping shock absorbers are also standard. The AWD further comes with BYD’s DiSus-C Intelligent Damping Body Control System
Both RWD and AWD are offered. The RWD is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that outputs 230 kW (308 hp) and 380 Nm while the AWD adds a front AC asynchronous motor that outputs 160 kW (215 hp) and 310 Nm. The top speed ranges from 210 km/h to 225 km/h and the 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time ranges from 7.3 seconds to 4.2 seconds, depending on the trims.
The 71.808 kWh and 80.640 kWh BYD Blade LFP battery packs provide a CLTC cruising range of 550 km and 610 km, respectively. Fast charging takes 25 minutes to replenish the battery from 10% to 80%.
Entering the car, the BYD Sealion 07 EV uses a 15.6-inch central control screen that can be rotated, combined with a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel, a 50-inch head-up display, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. The entire series is equipped with the DiLink100 intelligent system as standard.
