GAC and Huawei’s first MPV exposed in China, may cost around 41,000 USD
On February 12, the first model from GAC and Huawei’s joint GH project was spied covered in heavy camouflage. The new car is positioned as an MPV and may be named Xiangwang (known as 向往 in Chinese, which means longing for or a strong desire for something), priced around the 300,000 yuan (41,000 USD) range.
As early as November 30, 2024, GAC and Huawei signed a cooperation agreement to build a high-end smart new energy vehicle (NEV) brand in addition to Trumpchi, Aion, and Hyptec. Then on January 14, Feng Xingya, general manager of GAC, officially announced that the Directors of GAC approved the “Proposal on the GH Project” to invest in the establishment of the GH Project Company (tentative name, subject to registration), with a registered capital of 1.5 billion yuan (205.2 million USD). The GH Project Company is intended to collaborate with Huawei to create a new automobile brand.
Looking into the future, the two parties plan to jointly launch three flagship models by 2025, including a large luxury MPV, a large luxury SUV, and a large luxury sedan. These new models will be equipped with Huawei’s latest Harmony cockpit and Qiankun ADS 3.0 systems.
Judging from the spy photos, the front face is expected to feature a large grille, paired with sharp headlights. From the side, the car adopts the popular floating roof design, decorated with chrome elements, which are also seen on the side steps and rear bumper. The roof is equipped with a lidar, indicating the car’s advanced driving assistance capabilities.
In addition, the tail label displayed the Chinese characters- 向往 (Xiangwang) – which is likely to be the name of the vehicle.
At this time, the powertrain and range specs as well as the tentative launch date have not been revealed, we’ll watch closely for more information.
