SAIC-GM-Wuling recalls 1,116 Baojun Yep over EBS software issue
SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co., Ltd. (SGMW) has initiated a recall of 1,116 Baojun Yep vehicles following a report to the State Administration for Market Regulation. The recall impacts specific models produced between April 20 and June 14, 2023, due to a software issue in the Electronic Brake Assist (EBS) system.

A fault in the EBS software triggered the recall. The system uses a 365-day calendar to calculate timing, but it encounters a problem when reading the date on the last day of a leap year. This leads to incorrect communication within the EBS, causing the brake assistance to fail and presenting a potential safety risk to the vehicle occupants.
SGMW will upgrade the EBS software in affected vehicles to address the issue. Some cars have already been updated and will not require further attention. The company will notify affected customers by registered mail, phone calls, and other communication methods, providing instructions for the software upgrade.
