Huawei’s Aito M8 got 21,000 orders in six hours in China

The Aito M8 range-extended crossover from Huawei and Seres got 21,000 orders six hours after presales had kicked off in China. It is a three-row SUV with 526 hp and a mixed range of 1,526 km. Its starting price is 368,000 yuan (50,650 USD). At the same time, the updated Aito M9 flagship SUV with a starting price of 478,000 yuan (65,790 USD) got 11,000 orders at the same time.

Aito announced presales of the brand-new M8 crossover on March 6 in China. It is the fourth model in the Aito lineup, after the M5, M7, and M9 SUVs. It will start sales in China in April. It will be available for purchase in Huawei’s HIMA stores and Aito showrooms across the Middle Kingdom.

The Aito M8 is a full-size crossover with dimensions of 5190/1999/1795 mm with a wheelbase of 3105 mm. It adopts a minimalistic design language with a closed front end and a flat roofline. The M8 has 21-inch multi-spoke rims, flush door handles, and headlights joined by an LED strip. Other fine features of the Aito M8 include a roof-mounted LiDAR and tinted rear windows.

Inside, the Aito M8 has two seat layout variants: a 2+2+2 and a 2+3. The car has a Huawei’s augmented reality head-up display and a large triple screen. The gear shifter of the M8 sits behind the wheel. The car’s center tunnel adopts two cup holders, a pair of wireless charging pads, and a spacious compartment. The second-row right captain chair of the six-seat variant of the M8 supports a zero-gravity mode.

The new SUV is powered by the dual-motor 4WD with a peak power of 392 kW (526 hp). Under the hood, this SUV has a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender. The battery is either LFP or ternary NMC with a capacity of 36 kWh or 52 kWh. The car’s electric range is 310 km under CLTC conditions. And the mixed range reaches 1,526 km.

Aito M8 preorders milestone

Huawei’s car sales network HIMA disclosed that the Aito M8 crossover got 21,000 orders six hours after preorders had started in China. Among them, 7,500 orders were placed in the first hour. It is an impressive statistic, bearing in mind the Aito M8’s starting price of 368,000 yuan (50,650 USD). The booking cost for the Aito M8 is 5,000 yuan (670 USD).  

Aito M9 presales performance

The updated Aito M9 crossover started presales at the same time as the M8. It is a bigger crossover with EREV and BEV powertrain variants. It is the brand’s ultimate flagship, priced at 478,000 yuan (65,790 USD). The Aito M9 got 3,800 orders in the first hour. Six hours after presales started, this car received over 11,000 orders. The updated Aito M9 will start sales this month.
