BYD filed for the Seal 08 electric sedan – it is the Qin L EV sibling
BYD Seal 08 electric sedan applied for the sales license in China as the Qin L EV sibling. The new sedan adopts the Ocean aesthetics design language, a length of 4720 mm, and a peak power output of 160 kW. It will enter the market this year as an affordable vehicle for urban mobility.
BYD continues its strategy of launching pairs of vehicles that are close in price and specs under two different series: Dynasty and Ocean. The Ocean series aims at younger buyers while Dynasty is dedicated to mature customers. On February 19, BYD applied for the sales license for the Seal 08 electric sedan, which is the sister model of the BYD Qin L EV.

The BYD Seal 08 electric sedan adopts the Ocean aesthetics design language with a distinguishing front-end design. It has long headlights, a trapeze-shaped air intake, and a BYD badge. The Seal 08 also has flush door handles, a slanted roofline, and a single taillight unit. The vehicle has three wheel design options. Moreover, this vehicle adopts BYD’s latest “God’s Eye” (DiPilot) driving assistance system.
Dimensions of the Seal 08 are 4720/1880/1495 mm with a wheelbase of 2820 mm. The previously revealed Qin L EV is exactly the same size. The Seal 08’s front and rear tracks are equal at 1610 mm. The car’s approach and departure angles are 13 and 16 degrees, respectively. The Seal 08’s curb weight lies between 1670 and 1800 kg (also similar to the Qin L EV), depending on the powertrain variant.
The entry-level Seal 08 has a BYD-made TZ180XSR electric motor with a peak power output of 110 kW (148 hp). It is powered by the 46.1 kWh LFP battery pack, suitable for a 470 km range under CLTC conditions. The more powerful Seal 08 has a BYD-made TZ200XSBE e-motor for 160 kW (215 hp). A 56.6 kWh LFP pack supplies power to this electric motor, good for 545 km (CLTC).
The Seal 08 will enter the Chinese market this year as a sedan for urban commutes. It will represent the mainstream segment. CarNewsChina expects the price of this vehicle to start below 150,000 yuan (20,600 USD).
