BYD Xia MPV sold over 10,000 units in less than a month in China

BYD Xia plug-in hybrid minivan sold over 10,000 units in less than a month in China, the automaker revealed. It started sales in China on January 8 with a starting price of 249,800 yuan (34,100 USD). The BYD Xia has the potential to become the segment’s bestselling car, replacing the Denza D9.

The BYD Xia is a long-anticipated minivan that was first introduced in China at the Chengdu Auto Show in August 2024. This model entered the Chinese market on January 8 with a price range between 249,800 yuan (34,100 USD) and 309,800 yuan (42,250 USD). It started volume deliveries on the same day, becoming a hot seller.

On February 3, BYD shared that it delivered 10,003 units of the Xia minivan 23 days after the market launch. It means the automaker had been selling around 435 vehicles daily. It is an impressive number, bearing in mind that January is considered a slow month for sales. CarNewsChina expects the Xia minivan’s sales to seemingly increase in the following months.

Last year, BYD’s Denza D9 became the bestselling large new energy minivan in China, selling 102,810 units in twelve months. It is a premium MPV with a price range between 339,800 – 600,600 yuan (47,200 – 83,430 USD). The cheaper Xia has a chance to dethrone the Denza D9.

The BYD Xia is a seven-seat minivan with a 2+2+3 layout and dimensions of 5145/1970/1805 mm. Its wheelbase of 3045 mm. The car’s turning radius is 5.7 meters. Its exterior adopts a large grille, rear sliding doors, and a single taillight strip. The center console of the BYD Xia adopts three screens. Its main monitor has a diameter of 15.6 inches, while an instrument panel and a front passenger screen have a diameter of 12.3 inches.

The BYD Xia integrates some high-end touches like a cooling and heated storage box, folding tables, and a ceiling-mounted monitor. The third row of the BYD Xia has three seats that can be electronically folded, forming a flat floor. The second row of this MPV offers two independent heated, ventilated, and massaged captain chairs.

The BYD Xia minivan adopts a 5.0 DM system with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine for 115 kW (154 hp) and an electric motor for 200 kW (268 hp). It has two battery options, 20.4 kWh and 36.6 kWh, suitable for 100 – 180 km (CLTC conditions).
