BYD sold 322,846 vehicles globally in February, rebounding 8.9% from 296,446 units in January, as the Chinese New Year holiday is over. The Shenzhen-based automaker exported a record-breaking 67,025 vehicles, up 187.8% year-over-year.

Company overseas sales have grown for the third consecutive month since November, when it exported 30,977 units.

To fuel its export ambitions, BYD plans to have eight car carriers by 2026. It already has four in operation, the latest being the BYD Shenzhen RoRo vessel, which was undocked on January 16 in China. It is also BYD’s largest carrier, with a length of 219 meters and a capacity to accommodate 9,200 cars.

BYD sales data include BYD-badged cars and all its three sub-brands: Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang. Here is the breakdown of 322,846 sold vehicles to brands:

  • BYD-badged cars (Dynasty and Ocean series): 304,673 units
  • Denza: 8,513 units
  • Fang Cheng Bao: 4,942 units
  • Yangwang: 105 units

322,846 vehicles sold last month means a growth of 165.2% year-over-year. However, while technically correct, comparing February 2024 to February 2025 doesn’t make much sense, as it doesn’t tell the whole story.

This is because the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday follows the lunar calendar, meaning the date changes yearly. It typically falls between late January and mid-February, depending on the timing of the new moon. This heavily affects January or February sales in China, depending on which month CNY falls.

Thus, the correct way to compare year-over-year sales is to sum January and February and compare it with the same combined two months the year before.

In Jan+Feb, BYD sold 614,679 units, up 90% year-over-year.

BYD exported 133,361 vehicles in Jan+Feb, up 124% year-over-year.

BYD sold 4.25 million passenger vehicles globally in 2024, up 41% from 2023. The company exported 417,204 EVs, up 71,9% from 2023, meaning exports accounted for about 10% of company sales last year. Analysts expect BYD to sell about 5.5 million cars in 2025.
