Denza was initially founded as a 50-50 joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and BYD. Last year, the Chinese automaker acquired 100% of the brand’s shares. The Denza’s current domestic model line comprises four models: N7 fastback SUV, D9 minivan, Z9 GT shooting brake, and Z9 sedan. Soon, the Denza N9 SUV will join this lineup. However, the brand’s overseas model line will be different.
BYD also runs an off-road-dedicated high-end brand, Fang Cheng Bao (FCB). Its model line consists of two off-road SUVs named Bao 5 and Bao 8. They are also known as Leopard 5 and Leopard 8. BYD aims to sell FCB-branded vehicles as a part of Denza brand overseas. The company applied this strategy to turn Denza into a strong global brand with a diverse model line.

FCB Bao 5 is Denza B5 for overseas markets
The evaluation model of the BYD’s FCB Bao 5 was seen in Australia during road tests. It wears heavy camouflage. However, this model can be easily distinguished by its blocky shape, swing-out tailgate, and vertically aligned taillights. The spotted vehicle has the NSW FHZ54S license plate.
CarNewsChina checked the registration information of this vehicle. According to the Australian regulator, the spotted car is called Denza B5. The B letter in its name refers to the Bao word, which can be translated from Chinese as Leopard. We may assume that the FCB Bao 5 will be called Denza B5 in overseas markets. It will become the first car of the Denza’s B-series. Later, the Denza model line could be expanded by the B8 crossover, known as FCB Bao 8 in China.
