The Jetour Freedom (known as Zìyóuzhě – 自由者 in Chinese) “road trip off-road SUV” will officially launch on February 14, three months after it made its global debut at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show and opened pre-sales. Considering that the Jetour Freedom is positioned below the Jetour Traveller, which starts at a price tag of 139,900 yuan (19,200 USD), we can expect it to have a lower price tag.

The Jetour Freedom can also be regarded as the gasoline-powered variant of the Jetour Shanhai T1 plug-in hybrid off-road SUV. Both models have the same shape and body dimensions (4706/1967/1845 mm and a 2810 mm wheelbase). In the front, the Jetour Freedom uses petal-shaped headlights, paired with a center grille decorated with the brand letters. A luggage rack is provided on the roof. Unlike other off-road SUVs, the rear does not come with an external container.

The interior is the same as that of the Jetour Shanhai T1, equipped with a D-shaped steering wheel, a 10.25-inch embedded full LCD instrument panel, and a 15.6-inch floating central control screen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.

The center console comes with 50W mobile phone wireless charging, a rotary knob for driving mode controls, cupholders, and a large gear lever. The driver and co-pilot seats support 6-way and 4-way electric adjustments, respectively; and both seats support ventilation and heating. The second row of seats comes with an armrest in the center and an LCD touch panel inside to control seat heating, ventilation, and massage. Other configurations include level 2 advanced driving assistance capabilities, a 64-inch sunroof, double-layer soundproof glass, and rear privacy glass.

Power comes from 1.5T and 2.0T engines, mated to a 7DCT and 8AT, respectively. The 1.5T engine has a maximum power of 135 kW (181 hp) and a peak torque of 290 Nm while the 2.0T has a maximum power of 187 kW (251 hp) and a peak torque of 390 Nm. The Jetour Freedom adopts BorgWarner’s sixth-generation four-wheel drive system and has 7+X driving modes. The X mode can intelligently identify road conditions and automatically distribute torque, according to Chery.
