China’s Chery has already exported 1 million cars in 2024
Chery reported on November 13 that exports for 2024 had exceeded 1 million. This is the first time the company has ever achieved this and sets a record for the speed of a Chinese manufacturer achieving the feat.

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to October, China exported 4.1 million passenger cars. Chery accounted for nearly 940,000 of that total, meaning that nearly one in every four exports is a car from Chery.
To mark the millionth export, Chery held a ceremony at the wharf in its home city of Wuhu, Anhui Province, where 332 Omoda 5 models were loaded onto a river transport bound for Shanghai. These will then be loaded in Shanghai for the sea crossing to Belgium, where they will arrive about two months from now.

Cumulative exports for Chery are now 4.3 million, making it the first Chinese brand to achieve over 4 million.
This year, Chery’s SUVs have done particularly well, with the Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8, Jetour Traveler, and Jetour X70 being star export models.
Editor’s note:
There has always been some controversy over whether SAIC or Chery is, in fact, the larger exporter. Chery is usually said to be the largest exporting Chinese brand. SAIC’s exports are, to an extent, dependent on the MG brand, which is not strictly Chinese. SAIC, as we have previously reported, is not doing well this year.

Chery’s export success is yet more proof that despite the market showing no signs of actual consolidation, a handful of winners are rapidly emerging, with the rest struggling for relevance.
