The Starship 7’s design is quite similar to that of its pure EV counterpart, the Galaxy E5. It has a closed front face, a through-type LED light strip, and split headlights. Its aerodynamic silhouette boasts a drag coefficient of 0.288Cd.

At the rear, the SUV features a rounded design complemented by through-type taillights. Built on Geely’s GEA global AI new energy architecture, the vehicle measures 4,740 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,755 mm. Two curb weight options are offered: 1,610 kg and 1,724 kg.

The Starship 7 features a minimalist dual-color cockpit layout with soft-touch materials and stitched leather. It is equipped with Meizu’s Flyme Auto intelligent system, which integrates a 14.6-inch central control screen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, and an optional wide head-up display. The steering wheel design is shared with the Galaxy E5, and higher-spec trims include a 16-speaker Flyme Sound system, a 540-degree transparent chassis view, and dual 50W wireless charging pads.

Comfort features abound, with marshmallow SPA seats offering 14-point massage functions, heating, and ventilation. The intelligent seating system automatically adjusts ventilation or heating based on occupancy. The SUV includes 34 storage compartments, a spacious trunk expandable from 528 L to 2,065 L, and a panoramic sunroof with a light-transmitting area of 3.3 m².

Behind the wheel

The Starship 7 offers a refined and confident driving experience. The hybrid system ensures smooth yet rapid acceleration, with the electric motor delivering instantaneous torque for city driving. The vehicle transitions seamlessly between gasoline and electric power on highways, providing efficiency and robust performance. This is all thanks to the NordThor 2.0 hybrid system, a second-generation PHEV technology. It combines a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine (82 kW/136 Nm), a high-power electric motor (160 kW/262 Nm), and an E-DHT transmission. The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h.

Steering feedback is precise, with a well-calibrated balance between lightness for urban maneuverability and stability for higher speeds. The suspension system, tuned for comfort, effectively absorbs road imperfections, offering a plush ride even on uneven surfaces. The chassis remains composed during cornering, minimizing body roll and enhancing driver confidence. The AI-driven energy management system further enhances the experience by adapting power delivery to suit road conditions, altitude, and driving style. This predictive feature optimizes fuel and electricity use and enhances the vehicle’s responsiveness.

Noise insulation is another key feature. The cabin remains quiet even at highway speeds, creating a serene environment. Drivers and passengers can enjoy the Flyme Sound system’s premium audio quality.

Safety

The Starship 7 has advanced features, including level 2 advanced driving assistance systems like emergency lane keeping, intelligent cruise control, and traffic jam assist. The Flyme Auto system also offers real-time energy flow monitoring, making it easier for drivers to understand and utilize the hybrid powertrain effectively.

Verdict

Despite being 125 mm longer than the Galaxy E5 BEV, the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 definitely draws similarities in terms of design and driving dynamics. The Starship 7 is a plug-in hybrid SUV that combines advanced technology and practical features. Its hybrid system, competitive pricing, and spacious design cater to families and environmentally conscious drivers. The vehicle reflects Geely’s efforts to expand its offerings in the hybrid SUV segment.
