On February 6, Geely announced that its self-developed artifical intelligence (AI) model and DeepSeek’s R1 model have completed integration to “redefine human-computer interaction and intelligent driving in smart cars” as well as “jointly promote the popularization of AI technology in the field of smart cars”.

Next, Geely will conduct distillation training on its Xingrui car control FunctionCall AI model with DeepSeekR1. Distillation is a training method in which outputs from a larger and more advanced AI model are used to train and improve a smaller model.

Geely released its Xingrui AI model on January 11 as “the world’s first full-stack self-developed full-scenario AI big model in the automotive industry”. Xingrui includes three basic models, namely, language, multimodal, and digital twin.

This collaboration should not come as a surprise. Utilizing technologies such as cloud computing and AI to enhance the competitiveness of new energy vehicles (NEVs), including performance and more personalized driving experience, have become one of the main trends in the Chinese automotive industry. It’s worth pointing out that Geely announced its “Smart Geely 2025” strategy to accelerate the implementation of the latest AI technologies such as end-to-end voice interaction models, AI digital chassis, and advanced intelligent driving.

Recently, Pan Jian, co-chairman of CATL, said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that China’s electric vehicle industry is transforming from “EV (electric vehicle)” to “EIV (intelligent electric vehicle)”.In Pan Jian’s view, the “I” is inseparable from the rapid growth of China’s EV market and that the rapid growth stems from the perfect integration of “electric” and “intelligence”. “Electricity makes intelligence possible, and consumers can enjoy new features that gasoline-powered vehicles cannot provide.”
