On January 21, Chery’s Jetour brand released another video and more images teasing the first model under its new luxury off-road vehicle series called Zongheng (纵横 in Chinese), which will be officially unveiled on January 22 in China. The video also showed off the vehicle’s ability to wade through water and perform a tank turn. Jetour said the Zongheng series vehicles will have “forward-looking off-road technology” and a “luxury driving experience”.

Judging from the images, the new car adopts a classic hard-core SUV design with straight body lines, a square shape, and hidden door handles. The roof slopes downward towards the rear while the side pillars are blackened to create a floating roof effect, paired with luggage racks. A roof lidar is also present, indicating advanced driving assistance capabilities.

Earlier, Chery registered three vehicle trademarks, namely, “Jetour Zongheng G900”, “Jetour Zongheng G700”, and “Jetour Zongheng F700”, which are expected to be reserved for the upcoming new Jetour Zongheng series. Combined with the previously exposed Jetour product planning, models such as the Shanhai T7 and Shanhai T5 are expected to belong to the Jetour Zongheng series with the possibility of being renamed to Zongheng G900 and Jetour Zongheng G700. Jetour Shanhai is a new energy product series targeting hybrid off-road travel.

Take the Shanhai T7 as an example, Jetour defined it as an “amphibious hard-core off-road SUV” that is bulletproof and explosion-proof, built on an 800V platform, and equipped with four electric motors. Its minimum ground clearance is 351 mm, the rear wheels can turn plus or minus 6°, and it has a climbing mode.

Furthermore, the preview video showed the new car wading through water and performing a tank turn.

Looking ahead

Last November, Chery’s deputy general manager Li Xueyong said that Jetour would build “countless” off-road models, including four light off-road models, three hardcore off-road models, and one to two luxury hardcore off-road models. Currently, the Jetour Shanhai series contains the T and L product lines, including the Shanhai T1, T2, L6, L7, and L9.

In 2024, Jetour sold 568,387 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 80.3%. This year, Jetour’s goal is 800,000 units.
