The Luxeed R7 SUV coupe from Chery and Huawei sold over 40,000 units four months after the sales launch. Luxeed delivered over 11,000 cars in January via Huawei’s HIMA stores. The brand officials claim, that the R7 has become the bestselling Chinese electric SUV with a price tag above 250,000 yuan (34,280 USD). However, this statement isn’t accurate.

The Luxeed R7 entered the Chinese market on September 24 as the second joint product between Huawei and Chery. On December 19, the EREV variant of this crossover started domestic sales. This vehicle is being sold in Huawei’s HIMA stores alongside Aito and Stelato branded cars. The Luxeed R7 became a hot seller in China in a few months.

On February 6, Luxeed reported that it had delivered 11,418 units of the R7 SUV coupe to customers across China. The car’s cumulative deliveries from October to January are over 40,000 units. According to China EV DataTracker, the exact number is 43,137 cars sold.

Luxeed officially claimed that the R7 crossover became the bestselling Chinese electric SUV with a price tag above 250,000 yuan (34,280 USD). However, the automaker admitted that the reported volume comprises sales performance of both BEV and EREV variants of this SUV coupe.

Here, we will also highlight that some strong rivals of the Luxeed R7, like Li Auto L6 and Aito M7 start just below the 250,000 yuan level. And the Li L6, with a starting price of 249,800 yuan (34,260 USD), sold over 20,000 units in January alone. Moreover, the entry-level Luxeed R7 also starts at 249,800 yuan. So, this vehicle technically doesn’t belong to that category of “Chinese electric crossovers with a price tag above 250,000 yuan.”

The Luxeed R7 is an SUV coupe with dimensions of 4956/1981/1634 mm and a wheelbase of 2950 mm. It is slightly bigger than the BMW X6. Another highlight of the Luxeed R7 is the lowest drag coefficient among mass-produced SUVs at 0.219 Cd. The trunk of this crossover offers 837 liters of space. Moreover, the electric Luxeed R7 also has a 52-liter frunk. The price range of the Luxeed R7 in China is 249,800 – 339,800 yuan (34,260 – 46,600 USD).

The electric Luxeed R7 stands on the 800V architecture. The entry-level variant of this car adopts a 215-kW (288 hp) electric motor on the rear axle. And the 4WD version of this EV has an additional 150 kW (201 hp) motor in the front. The Luxeed R7 EV comes standard with two battery options: 82 kWh and 100 kWh. The car’s range is 667 – 802 km under CLTC conditions.

The EREV variant of the Luxeed R7 is offered as RWD-only with a single e-motor for 200 kW (268 hp). It also switches from the 800V architecture to 400V. This variant has a 1.5-liter turbocharged ICE under the hood that acts like a generator. Its peak power reaches 115 kW (154 hp). Thanks to the CATL’s 37 kWh battery pack, the Luxeed R7 can run up to 251 km in electric mode. Its mixed range reaches 1,570 km.
