New Aito M5 Ultra with 192-line lidar pre-order opened at 32,700 USD
On March 1, Aito opened its new M5 Ultra SUV for pre-order, priced at 238,000 yuan (32,700 USD). The new car was coined the “strongest” Aito M5 in history with five major upgrades in terms of appearance, cockpit, intelligent driving, vehicle control, and safety, according to the official.
- Appearance: added new Phantom Purple and Zero Degree White exterior paints
- Cockpit: added a new orange interior, new-style gear lever, center console storage space, and four-way leg rest for the co-pilot seat
- Intelligent driving: upgraded to a 192-line lidar and 4D millimeter-wave radar
- Safety: added all-directional automatic emergency braking for collision avoidance and automatic emergency steering
- Vehicle control: smoother braking
Furthermore, Aito claimed the new Aito M5 Ultra is equipped with the “strongest intelligent driving” system – Huawei ADS 3.0 advanced driving system, which supports full-scene navigation in urban environments and highways. The new car has also added a remote control parking function, which can park in and out of ultra-narrow parking spaces.
Other aspects are consistent with the current model on sale. For reference, the current EV variant is powered by a rear permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 200 kW (268 hp) and matched with 83 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs. The CLTC range is 602 km.
The current EREV variant is offered in two trims:
- RWD: 200 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor
- AWD: 480 kW (644 hp) dual front and rear permanent magnet synchronous motors
Both RWD and AWD come with 42 kWh ternary lithium battery packs, with a corresponding CLTC pure electric range of 255 km and 230 km as well as a comprehensive range of 1,440 km and 1,275 km, respectively.
In January 2025, only 910 units of the Aito M5 series were sold, accounting for just 4.17% of Aito’s monthly sales. Compared to the Aito M7 and M9, the M5’s sales performance is subpar.
