New BYD Qin Plus DM-i arrived at dealers in China, price may start at 12,300 USD

The new BYD Qin Plus DM-i sedan has arrived in the store in China, powered by BYD’s DM 5.0 PHEV technology. Its price may start at 89,800 yuan (12,300 USD), which is 10,000 yuan (1,375 USD) more expensive than the current model on sale.

The BYD Qin Plus was the best-selling sedan in China last year with 480,025 units sold, also making it the overall second best-selling vehicle in China. In particular, 304,388 units of the PHEV variant and 175,637 units of the EV variant were sold. The BYD Qin was first launched in 2013 as the first PHEV sedan under BYD’s Dynasty series, just like the Qin Dynasty being China’s first unified state.

At first glance, the new car adopts a new large grille design. The rear uses a blackened through-type taillight that extends across horizontally.

From the side, the traditional door handles remained unchanged. It is worth pointing out that the entry-level trim does not come with a panoramic sunroof. Consumers can also select an optional advanced driving assistance package.

Furthermore, the new BYD Qin Plus DM-i has become larger, with a length, width, and height of 4780/1837/1515 mm, which is 15 mm longer and 20 mm taller than the current model, but the wheelbase is still 2718 mm.

Power comes from a 1.5L engine with a maximum power of 74 kW (99 hp) and an electric motor with a maximum power of 120 kW (161 hp). The pure electric range options are 43 km and 90 km.

The cockpit retains the D-shaped steering wheel, instrument panel, and floating center control screen. On the contrary, the dashboard is less layered and the air-conditioning outlets on both sides are more refined. The physical buttons still concentrate around the gear lever.

Two wireless charging panels and cup holders are present on the center console. The second-row passengers also have access to a rear air-conditioning outlet.
