Top 10 most expensive electric sedans and estates in China – Nio, Zeekr, Denza

In one of our previous articles, we named the ten most expensive new energy SUVs in China. Now, CarNewsChina has come up with the Top 10 most expensive electric sedans and estates. We also obtained their sales data in 2024 to show which model sells better. This list comprises models from Nio, Zeekr, Denza, Stelato, and other brands.

When compiling this rating, we ranked the cars in ascending order of their entry-level trims’ cost. This rating is formed by eight battery electric vehicles, and four models with both BEV and PHEV powertrain options available. Meanwhile, the list of the ten most expensive crossovers included seemingly more extended-range electric cars (EREVs).

10. Luxeed S7

The tenth place of the list is taken by the Luxeed S7 sedan from Huawei and Chery. It is a battery electric vehicle with a starting price of 229,800 yuan (31,690 USD) without discounts. Last year, Chery & Huawei sold 30,967 units of the Luxeed S7.

The Luxeed S7 sedan has dimensions of 4971/1963/1474 mm with a wheelbase of 2950 mm. Its RWD variant has a 215-kW (288 hp) engine. And the 4WD version offers 365 kW (489 hp). This car has two battery options for 82 and 100 kWh, suitable for 705 – 855 km range.   

9. Voyah Passion

The Voyah Passion sedan from the state-owned Dongfeng took the ninth spot in the list with a starting price of 252,800 yuan (34,860 USD). According to China EV DataTracker, the Voyah Passion sold 6,349 units last year. It is a small number, considering the sales volume of other vehicles in this list.

The Voyah Passion is a large sedan with dimensions of 5088/1970/1515 mm and a wheelbase of 3000 mm. Inside, it has an impressive triple screen and an additional touchscreen for climate control settings. The PHEV variant of the Voyah Passion has a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine for 100 kW (134 hp) paired with two e-motors for 290 kW (389 hp). The Passion PHEV has a 43-kWh battery on board. Its mixed range reaches 1,260 km under CLTC conditions.

The BEV variant of the Voyah Passion has a dual-motor 4WD with a combined power output of 375 kW (503 hp). It is powered by an 82.1-kWh battery pack, suitable for 580 km of CLTC range. The long-range variant of the Voyah Passion EV has a 108.7-kWh battery pack for a 730 km range.

8. Zeekr 001

The Zeekr 001 electric shooting brake from Geely Group got the eighth spot in the list with a starting price of 259,000 yuan (35,720 USD). This model became a hot seller in China with 99,984 units delivered last year.

The Zeekr 001 stands on the SEA architecture with dimensions of 4977/1999/1545 mm and a wheelbase of 3005 mm. The entry-level Zeekr 001 offers RWD for 310 kW (416 hp). The 4WD variant has a combined peak power output of 580 kW (778 hp). It has two battery options: LFP for 95 kWh and ternary NMC for 100 kWh. The car’s range is 675 – 750 km (CLTC).

7. Avatr 12

The seventh spot of the list is occupied by the Avatr 12 from CATL, Changan, and Huawei. Its EREV variant starts at 269,900 yuan (37,220 USD) in China. From January to December 2024, the Changan-CATL JV sold 31,639 units of the Avatr 12.

The Avatr 12 stands on the CHN platform and boasts dimensions of 5020/1999/1460 mm with a wheelbase of 3020 mm. The EREV variant of the Avatr 12 has a 1.5-liter turbocharged generator for 115 kW (154 hp). It has a single e-motor in the rear axle for 231 kW (310 hp). The Avatr 12 EREV has a 39-kWh LFP battery on board, suitable for a combined range of 1,155 km.

The all-electric variant of the Avatr 12 offers a single-motor variant for 237 kW (318 hp). The all-wheel drive variant of this model has a combined peak power of 402 kW (539 hp). The Avatr 12 EV has a single ternary NMC battery for 94.5 kWh. Its CLTC range is 705 – 755 km.

6. IM L7

The IM L7 sporty sedan from SAIC and Alibaba placed sixth with a starting price of 299,900 yuan (41,355 USD). IM Motors sold 889 units of the L7 last year.

The IM L7 is a large electric sedan with dimensions of 5108/1960/1485 mm and a wheelbase of 3100 mm. Its RWD variant has a 250-kW (335 hp) electric motor in the rear axle powered by a ternary NMC pack for 90 kWh and 708 km range. The 4WD variant of the IM L7 has two electric motors for 425 kW (570 hp) and the same battery for 625 km.

5. Denza Z9 / Z9 GT

The Denza Z9 sedan and Z9 GT estate took the fifth spot in this list with a price of 334,800 yuan (46,170 USD). The Denza Z9 GT entered the Chinese market in September 2024. Its cumulative sales reached 11,383 units. As for the sedan iteration of this vehicle, it started sales in November 2024. Its sales volume reached 1,120 cars last year.

The Denza Z9 GT has PHEV and BEV variants. The first version has dimensions of 5195/1990/1500 mm with dimensions of 3125 mm. And the Z9 GT BEV has a length of 5180 mm. The electric modification of the Denza Z9 GT has three electric motors for 710 kW (952 hp). It has a 100-kWh LFP battery on board for 630 km. The PHEV version Denza Z9 GT has a 2-liter turbocharged ICE for 152 kW (204 hp) and three e-motors for 640 kW (858 hp). Dimensions of the Denza Z9 sedan are 5220/1990/1518 mm. It shares powertrain variants with its estate sibling.

4. Stelato S9 / Yuanhang Y7

The fourth place of the list goes to the Stelato S9 electric sedan from Huawei and BAIC. It entered the Chinese market in August 2024 with a starting price of 339,800 yuan (55,130 USD). Deliveries of this model started in October. In three months of 2024, it sold 3,008 units.

The Stelato S9 has dimensions of 5160/1987/1486 mm with a wheelbase of 3050 mm. The RWD variant of the S9 has a peak power output of 230 kW (308 hp). As for the 4WD variant of the Stelato S9, it offers a peak power of 390 kW (523 hp). It has a ternary NMC battery pack for 100 kWh, good for 721 – 816 km range.

The Yuanhang Y7 sedan from Dayun also got the fourth place of the list with a starting price of 399,800.yuan. It entered the market in May 2024. However, there is no sales data for this model online. The Yuanhang Y7 measures are 5260/2000/1490 mm with a wheelbase of 3128 mm. It has a dual-motor 4WD for 500 kW (671 hp). It has three ternary battery options: 98 kWh for a 720 km range, 120 kWh for 920 km, and 150 kWh for 1,020 km.

3. Nio ET7

The Nio ET7 electric sedan took the third spot with a starting price of 428,000 yuan (59,020 USD). Last year, Nio sold 7,244 units of the ET7.

The Nio ET7 has dimensions of 5101/1987/1509 mm with a wheelbase of 3060 mm. It is available for purchase with 4WD only for 480 kW (644 hp). It is available for purchase with 75 and 100 kWh battery options for 530 – 675 km range.

2. Zeekr 001 FR

The second place of the list is occupied by the Zeekr 001 FR. It is a performance variant of the Zeekr 001 shooting brake with a price tag of 769,000 (106,045 USD). The exact sales volume of the 001 FR is unknown. However, this vehicle’s production volume is strictly limited to 99 units per month. So, we may assume that Zeekr sold around 1,000 units of the 001 FR this year.

The Zeekr 001 FR has dimensions of 5018/1999/1545 mm. It has four e-motors with a peak power of 930 kW (1,247 hp). They are powered by a 100-kWh ternary NMC battery with 550 km range. The Zeekr 001 FR has a zero-to-hundred acceleration time of 2.02 seconds.

1. Nio ET9

The first place of this list is taken by the Nio ET9. It was launched at the Nio Day 2024 on December 21 with a price tag of 788,000 yuan (108,775 USD).

The Nio ET9 stands on the NT 3.0 platform, and boasts dimensions of 5324/2016/1620 mm with a wheelbase of 3250 mm. It has two electric motors with a peak power of 520 kW (697 hp), powered by a 100-kWh battery for 650 km of CLTC range. It has a zero-to-hundred acceleration time of 4.3 seconds. Its intelligent driving system has a total of 31 sensors.

Extra place

This year, two more luxury NEV sedans will enter the Chinese market. The first one is the Maextro S800 from Huawei and JAC. It will have a starting price of 1 million yuan (136K USD). It has dimensions of 5480/2000/1536 mm (length, width, height) and a wheelbase of 3370 mm. It will be available for purchase with BEV and EREV options. The peak power output of this powertrain is 852 hp.

Another model is the Yangwang U7 from BYD. It will also enter the market this year with a starting price of around 1 million yuan. It has dimensions of 5360/2000/1515 mm, and the wheelbase is 3200 mm. It will have BEV and PHEV powertrain variants. The Yangwang U7 PHEV is powered by a 2.0T engine for 200 kW (268 hp) and four permanent magnet synchronous motors, each outputting 260 kW (349 hp). The EV variant of this car also offers four electric motors for 960 kW (1,287 hp).
