BYD sold-record breaking 4.3 million vehicles in 2024, a 41% increase from 2023

BYD sold a record-breaking 514,809 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in December, bringing the cumulative 2024 sales to 4,272,145 units, up 41.3% compared to 3 million in 2023. This is the first time BYD has surpassed 4 million annual sales.

Out of it, 1,764,992 were passenger BEVs (battery electric vehicles), an increase of 12% from 1.6 million in 2023. All-electric vehicles represent 41.5% of BYD’s total sales in 2024.

BYD sold 2,485,378 passenger PHEVs (plug-in hybrid vehicles) in 2024, up 72.8% from 1.4 million in 2023. Plug-in hybrids represent 58.5% of BYD’s total sales in 2024.

BYD ceased production of ICE-only vehicles in April 2022, focusing only on new energy vehicles, the Chinese term for BEVs, PHEVs, and FCEVs (hydrogen). FCEV sales are nearly non-existent in China.

BYD sales report includes passenger and commercial vehicles. In December, BYD sold 509,440 passenger vehicles, up 49.8 % from December previous year. This is the third month in a row BYD surpassed the 500,000 milestone. This brings cumulative 2024 sales of passenger vehicles to 4,250,370 units.

Commercial vehicle sales in December were 5,369, up 520% from the previous year. The cumulative 2024 sales were 21,775 units.

In December, BYD exported 57,154 vehicles overseas, up 58% from last year. In total, BYD sold 417,204 vehicles outside China in 2024, up 71.9% from 2023.
