The BYD Xia PHEV minivan reached dealers before the launch

The BYD Xia plug-in hybrid minivan reached dealers ahead of the market launch officially scheduled for January 8. This vehicle will start sales with a price range of 280,000 – 320,000 yuan (38,400 – 43,800 USD).

BYD officially shared they will launch the Xia plug-in hybrid minivan at the Beijing National Aquatic Centre, also called Water Cube. The automaker scheduled the launch ceremony for January 8. Meanwhile, the first Xia minivans started arriving at dealers all around China for display.

BYD Xia at dealers

BYD Xia vehicles arrived at dealers before the official sales. It is worth noting these cars aren’t for sale but display. All of these models are finished in white body color matched with a brown-beige interior. It’s worth noting the press color of the BYD Xia’s exterior is dark purple. However, BYD officials decided to display this MPV in a more common white shade.

The Xia minivan aligns with a pre-production model revealed at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2024. It has a large grille with integrated headlights and a Dynasty series’ signature Dragon Whisker chrome-plated element with a 夏 (Xia) inscription. We will remind you that the BYD Xia is called after China’s first ruling dynasty. BYD underlined that this vehicle is the ultimate flagship of the brand’s lineup.

Back to the BYD Xia exterior styling, it adopts 18-inch wheels with Michelin e-Primacy tires. The car also has a sunroof, rear sliding doors, and a single LED taillight unit. This MPV has a roof spoiler to add some sportiness to its stance. Its rear windows are tinted.

The interior design of the BYD Xia’s center console stays in line with other BYD-branded cars. It has the same three-spoke steering wheel, a large 15.6-inch floating screen, and a sizeable 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster. However, the Xia MPV has its distinguishing features. Unlike other BYD models, its gear shifter sits behind the steering wheel. As a result, the center tunnel has more valuable space. The Xia also has a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the front passenger.

As mentioned, the BYD Xia’s interior is finished in a brown-beige color scheme. The second row of this MPV offers two independent heated, ventilated, and massaged captain chairs. Other high-end touches include a cooling and heated storage box, folding tables, and a ceiling-mounted monitor. The third row of the BYD Xia has three seats that can be electronically folded, forming a flat floor.

The BYD Xia is a large car with dimensions of 5145/1970/1805 mm and a wheelbase of 3045 mm. For clarity, it is 105 mm shorter than BYD’s flagship minivan, the Denza D9. The Xia MPV adopts a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine for 115 kW (154 hp) and an electric motor for 200 kW (268 hp). It has two battery options, 20.4 kWh and 36.6 kWh, suitable for 100 – 180 km (CLTC conditions).

In September last year, BYD dealers started taking pre-orders for the Xia minivan with a preliminary starting price of 289,000 yuan (39,600 USD). According to the latest information, the price range of this minivan is 280,000 – 320,000 yuan (38,400 – 43,800 USD). For comparison, the 2025 Denza D9 minivan from BYD starts at 339,800 yuan (46,600 USD). So, these two models aren’t considered as direct competitors.
