BYD Sealion 07 DM gets ready for global market with 120 km EV range

The BYD Sealion 07 DM was exposed by the Chinese regulator as it gets ready for the global market. It is a 4.9-meter crossover with five seats, a DM 5.0 powertrain, up to 120 km of electric range, and a zero-to-hundred acceleration time of 4.7 seconds. It will enter China early next year.

The BYD Sealion DM isn’t a new model. It is a facelift of the BYD Tang-based Frigate 07 crossover launched in 2022. It was initially a part of the BYD’s Warship series that comprises cars called after battleships (e.g. Destroyer 05, Frigate 07). However, BYD decided to distance itself from this battleship theme, switching to the marine series. So, the updated Frigate 07 will adopt the Sealion 07 DM name.

The BYD Sealion 07 DM adopts the Marine Aesthetics design language with smooth shapes and sharp headlights. Its headlights are joined with an LED strip. This design element makes the front end of the new SUV look bulky. The Sealion 07 DM has retractable door handles, wide wheel arches, and a large air intake in the front bumper. From the back, it has a small roof spoiler, a rear wiper, and a distinguishing taillight unit.

The Sealion 07 DM can be optionally equipped with a LiDAR sensor from BYD-backed RoboSense and a drone dock station. It also has a large sunroof, which is standard. The Sealion 07 DM rides on 20-inch wheels. The car boasts hefty dimensions of 4880/1920/1750 mm and a wheelbase of 2820 mm. Inside, the Sealion 07 has five seats. Its curb weight is 2,103 – 2,346 kg.

BYD Sealion 07 DM powertrain

The BYD Sealion 07 DM adopts the DM 5.0 powertrain system. It comprises a 1.5-liter turbocharged BYD472ZQB engine for 115 kW (154 hp). This ICE is standard for two powertrain variants: DM-i and DM-p. Their specs are as follows:

• DM-i: 1.5-liter ICE for 115 kW (154 hp), electric motor for 200 kW (268 hp), FWD
• DM-p: 1.5-liter ICE for 115 kW (154 hp), two electric motors for 350 kW (469 hp), 4WD

The Sealion 07 DM-p can accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 km/h. Thus, it is a family SUV with a sprinkle of sportiness.

The BYD Sealion 07 DM uses a single LFP battery option from FinDreams. It has a capacity of 26.6 kWh and a weight of 231 kg. Depending on the powertrain option, the Sealion 07 DM can run 100 – 120 km in electric mode. The fuel consumption of this mid-size SUV with a drained battery lies in 5.5 – 6.6 L/100km range.

The Sealion 07 DM will enter the Chinese market next year. Later, it can hit the Global market as BYD actively promotes the Sealion series overseas.
