Chery to create Jetour luxury hybrid off-roaders to take on Jeep and Land Rover
Chery’s Jetour brand has announced it will launch a new series of luxury off-roaders. There will be a product launch conference on January 22 for what is currently being called Jetour Zhongheng (Jietu Zhongheng).

The brand will be taking on the Tank brand with the first car aimed at the Tank 700, but has the ultimate aim of being another Jeep or Land Rover. Chery has registered three trademarks with the State Intellectual Property Office: Jetour G900, Jetour G700 and Jetour F700.
Jetour was created in 2018 and specializes in SUVs. Li Xueyong, deputy general manager of Chery Automobile, has previously said that the Jetour brand would launch 4 light-off roaders, 3 strong off-road models, and 1 or 2 luxury off-roaders.

The new lineup represents the luxury part of the Jetour plan, and it’s believed the goal is to make the brand on par with Land Rover in the UK and Jeep in the US.
Jetour has received assistance from Chery with off-road technology and has cooperated with the Luxeed brand from Chery and Huawei to gain experience building a high-end luxury brand image.
Although the brand is being benchmarked against Tank, it seems that it will consist purely of new energy vehicles – Tank sells a mixture of ICE and PHEV models. The new series aims to produce a product line with advanced off-road technology and a luxurious driving experience. Ultimately, the goal is to build the world’s leading hybrid off-road brand.

More details will emerge at the press conference on January 22 where we should also see the unveiling of the first model and perhaps a preview of a second model.
Currently, the Jetour range consists of small and medium-sized SUVs with both ICE and PHEV powertrains.
It should be remembered that Chery is also the joint venture partner of Jaguar Land Rover in China. The JV will be launching a Freelander brand using Chery’s E0X platform.
