Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 EM over 5 meters long unveiled in China
On March 3rd, Geely officially unveiled its upcoming Galaxy Starshine 8 at the Geely AI Intelligent Technology Conference”, positioning the new car as “the world’s new generation of luxury B+ class plug-in hybrid sedan.” The Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 had already appeared in the latest declaration catalog released by the Chinese MIIT in February.
Geely also claimed the Starshine 8 is the world’s first 5m, 3L luxury plug-in hybrid sedan, with a length, width, and height of 5018/1918/1480 mm, respectively; and a wheelbase of 2928 mm. The curb weights are 1908 kg and 1950 kg.
Most notably, the roof has a lidar to support level 2.9 intelligent driving assistance capabilities. The overall shape adopts a fastback design with hidden door handles, multi-spoke rims, and slender headlights.
The rear features a layered design with a through-type taillight group and an “EM-P” logo on the lower right.
Power comes from Geely’s NordThor EM-P plug-in hybrid system, consisting of a 1.5T engine with a maximum power of 120 kW (161 hp) and an electric motor with a maximum power of 160 kW (215 hp), mated to a DHT. The car can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h.
Additionally, the standard trim is equipped with an 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack provided by CATL, giving a CLTC pure electric range of 104 km while the high-end trim is upgraded to a 27.69 kWh battery pack, offering an increased range of 161 km. The comprehensive range is 1,200 km.
The interior image has not been revealed at this time. We can expect the cockpit to come with the Flyme Auto smart cockpit system, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.
In February, Geely sold 204,910 vehicles, up 84% from the same period last year, in which the Geely Galaxy brand sold 76,132 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 288%. Geely Galaxy’s cumulative sales from January to February are 169,677 units, a year-on-year increase of 185%.
