RHD Yangwang U8 spied in China, next stop UK, Australia and HK.
A right-hand drive version of the Yangwang U8 has been spotted near the BYD factory in Xi’an. This shows that exports to RHD markets are likely to start soon. Previous indications have suggested that the Yangwang U8 would be taken to Australia and Europe. Earlier this year, the Yangwang was shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, indicating a possible intention to enter the UK market.

The RHD version appears to be the same as the domestic market U8, apart from the steering wheel being moved to the other side. Despite the Yangwang U8’s colossal size (see specs) – it measures 5325, 2095, 1940 mm (l/w/h) and has a wheelbase of 3050 mm – the car is only available as a five-seater.
Whereas BYD is famous for PHEVs along with EVs, the Yangwang U8 is actually an EREV, meaning that the 2.0T engine actually only operates as a generator. Maximum power for the 2.0T BYD487ZQD engine is 200 kW. Yangwang uses the BYD e4 (yi sifang) platform. This means that each wheel has a dedicated motor with a maximum power of 220 kW, which can deliver 320 Nm of torque to the wheel. The overall power for the four wheels is, therefore, 880 kW and has a peak torque of 1280 Nm.

Each motor can control a single wheel independently to achieve precise drive and braking. This has helped deliver driving abilities such as tank turns and emergency floating.
As a BYD product, it uses the company’s lithium iron phosphate blade battery, which has a capacity of 49.05 kWh and can deliver an all-electric range of 120 km and a comprehensive range of 780 km.
The Yangwang U8 is equipped with three Lidar sensors, five millimeter wave radars, 12 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. These deliver a high level of intelligent driving and help the car tackle off-road terrain.

Inside, the driver gets a 12.8-inch curved instrument screen, and there is a 23.6-inch infotainment unit.
Sales are likely to begin in RHD drive markets next year. Along with the UK and Australia, Hong Kong is another likely recipient of the Yangwang U8.
