Top 10 most expensive electric MPVs in China – the growing segment
Minivans are considered cool cars in China. Movie villains ride on these vehicles, and big enterprise owners and directors prefer to use them for daily commutes. With the development of electric cars, multi-purpose vehicles became even more desirable as they offer sports car dynamics and the comfort of a business saloon. CarNewsChina has come up with the Top 10 most expensive minivans. We also obtained their sales data in 2024 to show which model sells better.

Previously, we prepared the Top 10 most expensive electric crossovers and the Top 10 most expensive sedans and estates. When compiling this rating, we ranked the cars in ascending order based on their entry-level trims’ cost.
10. Maxus Mifa 9
The Maxus Mifa 9 from SAIC took the tenth spot on the list with a starting price of 259,900 yuan (34,840 USD). It is available for purchase in both BEV and PHEV variants. However, this MPV’s sales are slow in China. Maxus delivered 2,610 units of the Mifa 9 last year.

The Maxus Mifa 9 measures 5270/2000/1848 mm with a wheelbase of 3200 mm. Inside, this MPV has six or seven seats. Its PHEV variant has a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine for 110 kW (148 hp) paired with a single electric motor in the front axle for 176 kW (236 hp). This vehicle has two battery options: 24.7 kWh LFP for 120 km range, and 39.7 kWh ternary NMC for 225 km.
The BEV variant of the Maxus Mifa 9 comes standard with a single electric motor for 180 kW (241 hp). It has two ternary NMC battery variants for 77 kWh and 90 kWh. The car’s range is 480 – 560 km.
9. Wey 80
The ninth place of the rating is occupied by the Wey 80 from Great Wall Motor. This MPV sells in China under the Gaoshan name. However, its international name is Wey 80. This vehicle sells in China with a starting price of 315,800 yuan (43,550 USD). Last year, 5,633 people became owners of Wey 80 minivans, according to China EV DataTracker.

The Wey 80 (Gaoshan) has dimensions of 5045/1960/1900 mm with a wheelbase of 3085 mm. It is available as PHEV only. The entry-level Wey 80 comes standard with a 1.5-liter ICE for 115 kW (154 hp). There is also a 4WD variant. Its powertrain comprises the same 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with two electric motors for 265 kW (355 hp). The total power output of the system reaches 358 kW (480 hp). The Wey 80 has three ternary batteries: 20 kWh, 38 kWh, and 44.3 kWh.
8. Hycan V09
The V09 minivan from the troubled NEV maker Hycan took the eighth spot on the list. This minivan is available for order with a starting price of 318,800 yuan (43,960 USD). However, only 753 units of the Hycan V09 were sold in China last year due to the company’s severe financial troubles.
The Hycan V09 is a pure electric seven-seat minivan with dimensions of 5215/1967/1910 mm with a wheelbase of 3170 mm. This car is available for purchase with front-wheel drive only with a peak power output of 202 kW (271 hp). There are two battery choices for this car: 95.2 kWh LFP for a 620 km range and 114 kWh ternary NMC for a 762 km range.
7. GAC Trumpchi E9
The GAC Trumpchi E9 plug-in hybrid minivan took the seventh spot on this list with a starting price of 319,800 yuan (44,100 USD). Last year, GAC sold 12,409 units of the Trumpchi E9.
The GAC Trumpchi E9 is available for purchase with four and seven seats inside. This vehicle boasts dimensions of 5212/1893/1823 mm with a wheelbase of 3070 mm. The Trumpchi E9 has a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder for 140 kW (188 hp). It works with an electric motor in the front axle for 134 kW (180 hp). The combined power output of this PHEV powertrain reaches 274 kW (367 hp). The Trumpchi E9 is offered with a single ternary NMC battery for 25.5 kWh. Its electric range reaches 136 km under CLTC conditions.
6. Voyah Dream
The sixth spot on the list goes to the Dongfeng’s Voyah Dream minivan. It is a huge car with a starting price of 329,900 yuan (45,490 USD). The Voyah Dream became a hot seller after the update in September 2024. As a result, it sold 55,117 units last year.
The Voyah Dream boasts hefty dimensions of 5315/1985/1820 mm and a wheelbase of 3200 mm. Its PHEV variant offers a 1.5-liter turbocharged ICE for 110 kW (148 hp) and two electric motors for 310 kW (416 hp). The combined peak power of this system is 420 kW (563 hp). Thanks to a 41.7 kWh ternary NMC battery, the Voyah Dream can run up to 235 km in electric mode.
The BEV variant of the Voyah Dream offers two electric motors for 320 kW (429 hp). They are powered by a ternary NMC battery with a capacity of 108.7 kWh, suitable for 650 km of CLTC range.
5. Denza D9
The Chinese bestselling MPV took the fifth place on the list. Of course, it is the Denza D9 from BYD. This MPV changed the whole segment after its market launch in May 2022. Last year, the Denza D9 remained highly demanded, selling 102,810 units in twelve months. The starting price tag of this model is 339,800 yuan (46,860 USD).
The Denza D9’s length, width, and height are 5250 mm, 1960 mm, and 1900 mm, respectively. The wheelbase of this minivan reaches 3110 mm. Inside, it has seven or four seats. The PHEV variant of this model is called DM-i. It has a 1.5-liter engine for 115 kW (154 hp) under the hood. It comes standard with a single e-motor for 200 kW (268 hp) in the front axle. However, there is a 4WD variant available with an additional 45 kW (60 hp). The Denza D9 DM-i has a 40 kWh LFP battery pack for a 200 km range.
The all-electric variant of the Denza D9 is available for purchase with a 230 kW (308 hp) electric motor and a 103 kWh battery for a 620 km range. There is also a 4WD variant available with an additional 45 kW e-motor in the rear axle. It has the same battery for 600 km of range.
4. Hongqi HQ9 PHEV
The Hongqi HQ9 PHEV minivan from FAW Group occupied the fourth place on the list, 1,000 yuan away from the third spot. The entry-level trim of this high-end minivan costs 358,800 yuan (49,480 USD) in China. Despite being a part of the highly respected Hongqi brand, the HQ9 PHEV sold only 2,758 units last year.
The Hongqi HQ9 PHEV has dimensions of 5222/2005/1935 mm with a wheelbase of 3200 mm. It has a 2-liter 120 kW (161 hp) turbocharged ICE under the hood paired with two electric motors for 210 kW (282 hp). The combined power output of the system is 300 kW (402 hp). The Hongqi HQ9 has a 20.1 kWh ternary NMC battery pack on board, suitable for 73 km of electric range under WLTC conditions.
3. Xpeng X9
The Xpeng X9 took the third spot on the list. This vehicle’s starting price is 359,800 yuan (49,620 USD). In twelve months of 2024, Xpeng sold 21,608 units of this model.
The Xpeng X9 is a relatively large vehicle with dimensions of 5293/1988/1785 mm and a wheelbase of 3160 mm. The entry-level minivan has a 235-kW (315 hp) electric motor in the rear axle, powered by an 84.5 kWh LFP battery for a 610 km range. Its long-range variant is available for purchase with a ternary NMC battery for 101.5 kWh and a 702 km range. As for the 4WD version of the Xpeng X9, it has two e-motors for 370 kW (496 hp) and a 101.5 kWh battery for a 640 km range.
2. Zeekr 009
The second spot in this list goes to the Zeekr 009 minivan from Geely Group. Its starting price in China reaches 439,000 yuan (60,540 USD). Last year, it sold 22,631 units in China.
The Zeekr 009 has dimensions of 5217/2024/1812 mm and a wheelbase of 3205 mm. It has three variants of the seat layout: for six, seven, and four passengers. The entry-level Zeekr 009 has a 310-kW (416 hp) electric motor in the front axle. The 4WD variant offers up to 580 kW (778 hp) of power. As a result, the Zeekr 009 speeds up to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Thanks to the 108-kWh battery and the 800V high-voltage system, it can run up to 740 km on a single charge.
The Zeekr 009 is also available with a 140-kWh ternary NMC battery. It provides this vehicle with up to 900 km range. However, it has a 400V platform only, which transfers to longer charging and less powerful electric motors. The FWD variant of the Zeekr 009 with a 140-kWh pack has a peak power of 250 kW (335 hp). The 4WD version’s peak power output is 450 kW (603 hp).
1. Li Auto Mega
The Li Auto Mega took the first place on the list with a starting price tag of 529,800 yuan (73,060 USD). This vehicle entered the Chinese market in March 2024. Initially, Li Auto planned to sell at least 2,000 of these vehicles per month. However, the demand for this vehicle appeared to be lower. As a result, its cumulative sales volume in 2024 reached 10,798 units.
The Li Mega is a large minivan with dimensions of 5350/1965/1850 mm and a wheelbase of 3300 mm. Inside, it has seven seats with a 2+2+3 layout. The Li Auto Mega goes standard with a dual-motor 4WD for 400 kW (536 hp). It speeds up to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. It has a 102.7 kWh ternary NMC battery on board for a 710 km range.
