BAIC BJ40e off-road EREV opens pre-sale at 30,900 USD in China
On December 17, BAIC officially opened its new BJ40 Magic Core Electric Drive Edition (BJ40e) range-extender off-road SUV for pre-sales, available in two trims, with a price range of 224,800 – 244,800 yuan (30,900 – 33,600 USD).

The new BJ40 Magic Core Electric Drive Edition continues the design of the current gasoline-powered variants on sale, featuring a square contour. The front face retains the signature five-section grille shape. On the contrary, the rear uses the “BJ40e” tail mark to reflect the car’s EREV identity. Consumers can continue to choose from four exterior paints: blue, black, white, and gray.
Different from the gasoline-powered variant, the new car is upgraded with 20-inch new aluminum alloy rims designed with six spokes.

The dimensions are 4790/1940/1964 mm, with a 2760 mm wheelbase and a 2640 kg curb weight. The approach angle is 38°, the departure angle is 37°, the ground clearance is 215 mm, the wading depth is 750 mm, and the towing capacity is 2.5 tons.
Power comes from a 138 kW (185 hp) 1.5T four-cylinder engine as the range extender and dual front/rear electric motors that output a total system power of 403 kW (540 hp) and a peak torque of 655 Nm. The fastest 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 5.5 seconds. In addition, the car is equipped with an intelligent center differential lock, front & rear differential locks (on the high-end trim), and an all-terrain intelligent electric ATS control system. 11 driving modes are supported, including four urban commuting modes, six off-road modes, and one track mode.
The charging port is located on the rear right side of the body. The 40.3 kWh ternary lithium battery pack offers an official pure electric range of 152 km (assuming under CLTC conditions). Under a full fuel tank and full charge, the comprehensive range is 1,200 km. Under fast charging, it takes 0.5 hours to replenish the battery from 30% to 80%.

Inside, the interior is available in two colors: the Wizard of Oz and Dawn; and continues to provide a 9-inch digital streaming rearview mirror, a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel, as well as a dual 12.8-inch central control screen and co-pilot screen, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip which supports an AI voice assistant. The vehicle operating system comes from the Beijing OS intelligent system.
The front seats support 12-way electric adjustment, ventilation, heating, and massage functions.
Other configurations are the 256-color ambient lights, 10 speakers, OTA updates, remote start, 50-watt mobile phone wireless charging, external discharge function, steering wheel heating, and level 2 advanced driving assistance capabilities including door opening warning, blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, adaptive cruise control, and remote parking.
