Chery launched Jetour Zongheng high-end off-road brand in China. The brand’s first model Jetour Zongheng G700 will enter the Chinese market in Q3 this year. Later, the F700 pickup truck and the G900 SUV with 1,572 hp will start sales domestically.

Jetour is a young brand under Chery Group launched in 2018. Recently, Jetour launched a series of off-road crossovers with sturdy styling. It became successful, as Jetour sales doubled in China. This year, Chery’s brand released a high-end branch called Jetour Zongheng. It will sell luxury off-road SUVs and pickup trucks in China.

Jetour Zongheng powertrain variants

Jetour Zongheng models will adopt two powertrain variants. The first one is PHEV (parallel hybrid) called CDM-O. It comprises a 2-liter turbocharged petrol-powered engine for 55 kW (208 hp). This ICE is paired with a 2-speed DHT drivetrain for 210 kW (282 hp). It also has a 300-kW electric motor in the rear axle for 300 kW (402 hp). Jetour Zongheng G700 SUV and F700 pickup truck will adopt this PHEV system.

Another powertrain of the Jetour Zongheng is EREV (range extender) called CEM-O. This variant offers a 2-liter generator for 155 kW that sends power to the battery and electric motors. The CEM-O powertrain adopts four electric motors with a peak power output of 1,200 kW (1,572 hp). For clarity, the electric motors of BYD’s Yangwang U8 SUV generate 880 kW (1,180 hp).

Both CDM-O and CEM-O powertrains adopt a high-voltage system for 800V. Thanks to this architecture, Jetour Zongheng’s batteries support 6C charging. It means it can be charged with a power of six times the capacity. As a result, it can charge from 20% to 80% in six minutes.

Jetour Zongheng G700

The Jetour Zongheng’s first model is the G700 off-road SUV. It was released last year as the Jetour T5 concept car. Now, the pre-production variant of this SUV was presented in China under a new name.

The Jetour Zongheng G700 has a sturdy look with a high bonnet line and a flat roofline. It is a body-on-frame SUV with a length of 5.1 meters. From the back, the Jetour Zongheng G700 adopts a swing-out tailgate with a full-size spare wheel mounted on it. The ground clearance of this SUV can be adjusted from 150 mm to 350 mm, thanks to air suspension.

Inside, the Jetour Zongheng SUV has six seats with a 2+2+2 layout. The center console of this SUV has a wide screen that acts as an instrument panel. It also has a large floating touchscreen, an oval steering wheel, and a gear shifter mounted on the steering column. The center tunnel of the G700 offers a wireless phone charging pad, a set of physical buttons, and cup holders. This sturdy off-roader adopts Lexicon speakers and a Huawei Qiankun driving assistance system.

Jetour Zongheng F700 and G900

The Zongheng F700 is a pickup truck that stands on the G700’s platform. Its distinguishing features include rear coach doors and cameras instead of side-view mirrors. All-in-all, it looks like a bold concept car that has a long journey to start volume production.

We can say the same about the Jetour Zongheng flagship model, the G900 crossover. It is an off-road SUV coupe with a range-extended hybrid system for 1,572 hp. Moreover, this vehicle can swim for up to 40 minutes, thanks to the IPX8 tightness standard. According to the brand’s officials, the G900 has a Chery in-house-developed motor designed specifically for the swimming function. As a result, this quirky SUV can swim at a speed of 8.5 km/h.

The Xiaomi SU7 has gained a new paint color – magenta. It is specially customized for the Xiaomi SU7 and is a special color to mark the fifteenth anniversary of Xiaomi. Despite being a special color for the anniversary, it is not a limited color.

Interestingly, the new hue extends right down into the wheels. With the addition of magenta, the Xiaomi SU7 is now available in a choice of ten different colors. Other optional colors cost 7000 yuan (950 USD), but the new magenta costs 9000 yuan (1250 USD).

Xiaomi claims that the bright magenta has a unique color formula and that the background is embellished with red pearlescent powder. The different textures create varying effects according to the light. Indoors or at night, it looks soft, whereas during bright daylight, it looks lively and bright.

The color extending into the wheels contrasts with the yellow brake calipers. It’s expected that the new color option will be very popular amongst young female buyers, who make up a surprisingly large percentage of buyers of the SU7. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has previously said that the percentage of female SU7 users has exceeded 40% and may actually be close to 50%.

Part of the success of the SU7 can be put down to its range of funky colors designed to appeal to young buyers. Most Chinese models sell with around 4 to 6 color choices rather than the 10 offered for the SU7.

Deliveries of the SU7 (see specs) began last year in April and it is available in three versions. The Standard and Pro are rear wheel drive using a single 220 kW electric motor. The Standard uses a 73.6 kWh, which gives the car a range of up to 700 km. Pro versions gain a larger 94.3 kWh battery, which provides a range of up to 830 km.

The Max version adds a 275 kW electric motor to the front axle. It uses a 101 kWh battery pack and has a range of up to 800 km.

Prices of the SU7 range from 215,900 yuan (29,650 USD) to 299,900 yuan (41,200 USD). The sedan has dimensions of 4997, 1963, 1440 mm (l/w/h) and has a wheelbase of 3000 mm.

Xiaomi’s second model, the YU7 SUV, Is expected to launch in June. It is currently unknown whether the YU7 will also be available in magenta.

Refreshed Tesla Model Y crossovers nicknamed “Juniper” were spotted on car carriers in China. These are display cars that will soon become available at Tesla showrooms across the Middle Kingdom.

The Tesla Model Y “Juniper” suddenly launched in China on January 10 with a starting price of 263,500 yuan (35,950 USD), receiving 50,000 orders in a day. On the same day, the refreshed EV applied for a sales license in China, revealing core specs. The car is currently available for order in China in two trim levels: RWD Launch Edition and AWD Long-Range Launch Edition. Their sales deadline is February 28. Deliveries are scheduled for March 2025.

Tesla Model Y “Juniper” spotted in China

As mentioned, a few batches of Tesla Model Y crossovers were seen in China on a car carrier. These vehicles have blue sponges on doors that serve as protection from scratches. It hints these “Junipers” are heading to Tesla showrooms as display cars. They are finished in gray. Some cars on carriers have rims with black aerodynamic caps. And one of the spotted vehicles has silver-colored rims.

The refreshed Tesla Model Y adopts a thing LED running light strip in the front, and headlights integrated into the front bumper. From the back, the American SUV adopts a wide taillight unit. Otherwise, its exterior aligns with the old model.

Inside, the Model Y “Juniper” keeps it simple with a large display and almost no physical buttons. However, the refreshed model switched to a steering-column-mounted gear shifter. The updated Model Y also adopts elongated rear seats and widened headrests. The “Juniper” trunk capacity reaches 2,130 liters with the second-row seats folded, a 100-liter increase compared to the old model.

Tesla Model Y “Juniper” Chinese specs

The entry-level Tesla Model Y “Juniper” has a single 3D6 electric motor in the rear axle for 220 kW (295 hp). It is paired with the CATL’s LFP battery pack for 62.5 kWh. The CLTC range of this variant is 593 km, up 39 km, compared to the older model.

The AWD variant of the refreshed Model Y adopts 3D3 and 3D7 e-motors for 137 kW (184 hp) and 194 kW (260 hp), respectively. The combined power output of the system is 331 kW (444 hp). The car has a CATL’s ternary NMC battery for 719 km.

The exact dimensions of the “Juniper” are 4797/1920/1624 mm with a wheelbase of 2890 mm. It is 47 mm longer and 1 mm narrower than its predecessor. Thanks to a sleek front end, its drag coefficient was reduced from 0.23 to 0.22 Cd.

Europe will be rejoicing from the latest spy shots of a BYD. Finally, It seems a BYD is working on a real wagon, unlike the fictitious Han wagon from a few years ago. The new car is believed to be a variant of the Seal 06 DM-i and, as such, will be a PHEV. Chinese media are referring to it as a travel edition.

The original BYD Seal 06 DM-i launched in May 2024 and together with the Qin L were the first cars to get BYD’s new DM 5.0 PHEV powertrain system.

The PHEV system is based around a 1.5-liter engine with a maximum power of 74 kW and 126 Nm torque. In the case of the sedan, the Seal 06 DM-i uses either a 120 kW or 160 kW front-mounted electric motor. These motors produce peak torque of 210 Nm and 260 Nm, respectively.

Lower-powered versions come with a smaller 10.08 kWh battery pack, which gives an all-electric range of 80 km. On the other hand, the more powerful version gains a larger 15.87 kWh battery pack, which gives an all-electric range of 120 km.

At launch, BYD’s DM 5.0 technology had three central claims: 46.06% thermal efficiency, 2.9 l/100 km fuel consumption, and 2,100 km range.

The wagon version of the Seal 06 DM-i will almost certainly use the same setup, most likely down to even the same battery pack sizes. Similar performance figures should be achievable.

Sedan versions of the Seal 06 DM-i (see specs) measure 4830, 1875, 1495 mm (l/w/h) and have a wheelbase of 2790 mm. The car is essentially a twin of the Qin L with certain styling differences and has no real relationship other than styling to the original all-electric BYD Seal.

Dimensions of the wagon Seal 06 DM-i should be very similar to the sedan. Prices for the sedan range from 96,800 yuan to 136,800 yuan (13,300 – 18,800 USD). The wagon may carry a slight premium to the sedan, but Chinese media still expect the car to start at around 100,000 yuan (13,750 USD).

It is highly likely that the car will be offered in Europe and export markets due to wagons not being particularly popular in the Chinese market and more popular in Europe. The car will be the first wagon for the mainstream BYD brand.

It will likely come equipped with BYD’s high-end intelligent driving system based on a pure vision solution.

The Geely Galaxy L6 EM-i plug-in hybrid sedan has reached dealers ahead of the sales launch in China. This PHEV started pre-sales on January 17 with a price range of 92,800 – 119,800 yuan (12,650 – 16,350 USD). The Galaxy L6 EM-i adopts the Lieshen 2.0 powertrain with a fuel consumption of 2.9 liters per 100 km and a mixed range of 1,300 km.

Back in 2023, the L6 became the second model of the Geely Galaxy. The cumulative sales of this sedan reached 74,278 units so far. Geely Galaxy L6 EM-i specs

The Geely Galaxy L6 EM-i is a sizable car for its price tag, with dimensions of 4782/1875/1489 mm and a wheelbase of 2757 mm. This sedan adopts a Leiahen 2.0 (NordThor 2.0) powertrain with a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine for 82 kW (110 hp) paired with an E-DHT gearbox that integrates a 160-kW (214 hp) electric motor.

The Galaxy L6 EM-i has two LFP battery options from the GWM-backed SVOLTL 8.5 kWh for 48 km of electric range and 19.1 kWh for 115 km range. The mixed range of this sedan reaches 1,300 km in a hybrid mode.

BYD’s Denza N9 flagship SUV was spotted at a dealership in China, according to the Chinese website called Difans. Earlier this month, Zhao Changjiang, General Manager of Sales at Denza, announced that the Denza N9 will arrive at major dealers around the Lunar New Year (which starts on January 29), and will start test drive activities, followed by the official launch soon after. Both PHEV and EV variants will be offered.

The sales associate further revealed that the entry-level trim without the roof lidar will start at 359,800 yuan (49,500 USD) while the top-end trim is expected to cost around 450,000 yuan ( 61,900 USD).

In addition to the standard trims, the Denza N9 also has a drone docking station version, which was previously exposed by the Chinese MIIT.

Positioned as a medium-to-large SUV, the Denza N9 measures 5258/2030/1830 mm with a 3125 mm wheelbase. Built based on BYD’s e³ platform, the Denza N9 is expected to support rear-wheel steering, crab walk, lateral parking, and tank turn. Additionally, BYD’s “God’s Eye” BAS 3.0+ advanced driving assistance system is also expected to be present for the trims that come with a roof lidar.

The PHEV variant is powered by a 152 kW (204 hp) 2.0T engine and three 200 kW/240 kW/240 kW electric motors with a combined power of 680 kW (912 hp), paired with 46.992 kWh BYD Blade battery packs. The previously declared pure electric range was 164 km.

The EV variant’s three electric motors have a combined output of 710 kW (952 hp). The battery capacity and range info have not been revealed at this time.

Inside, the three screens stand out in the front row in addition to the streaming screens for the digital side mirrors on each side, consisting of a 17.3-inch floating central control screen, a 13.2-inch full LCD instrument panel, and a co-pilot entertainment screen. A 50-inch AR-HUD is also present. The center console comes with two 50W mobile phone wireless charging panels, an air-conditioning outlet, and physical control buttons below the outlet.

The interior adopts a 2+2+2 layout. Each seat can be electrically adjusted and comes with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The zero-gravity co-pilot seat has a queen mode and leg support along with the second row of seats. Rear passengers will also have access to a ceiling entertainment screen and small foldable tables.

China’s EV market in the third week of the year was strongly up, with several exceptions. Nio sales were 87% up, Xiaomi was up 4%, Tesla was up 28%, and BYD 29% compared with the week before.

The weekly sales are published by Li Auto, and although Li’s not explicitly saying it, they are based on insurance registration data. The numbers are rounded and present new energy vehicles (NEV) brand sales, the Chinese term for BEVs, PHEVs, and EREVs (range extenders). To be completely precise, it also includes hydrogen vehicles (FCEVs), but their sales are almost non-existent in China.

The insurance registrations shared by Li Auto represent brand sales, not group sales. Thus, BYD sales are only BYD-badged cars and do not include Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang sales; the same goes for Geely, Nio, etc.

BYD got the first spot with 55,000 vehicle registrations, up 28.5% from 42,800 units the week before and up 36.14% from 40,400 in the same week a year ago. In the first three weeks of January, BYD sold 134,300 vehicles in China.

Wuling recorded 11,700 vehicle registrations, up 56% from 7,500 units the week before and up 37.65% from 8,500 in the same week a year ago. In the first three weeks of January, Wuling sold 24,700 vehicles in China.

Tesla achieved 10,000 vehicle registrations, up 28.2% from 7,800 units the week before but down 14.53% from 11,700 in the same week a year ago. In the first three weeks of January, Tesla sold 23,300 vehicles in China.

Li Auto reported 9,500 vehicle registrations, up 25% from 7,600 units the week before and up 25% from 7,600 in the same week a year ago. In the first three weeks of January, Li Auto sold 23,800 vehicles in China.

Aito recorded 6,100 vehicle registrations, up 22% from 5,000 units the week before but down 16.44% from 7,300 in the same week a year ago. In the first three weeks of January, Aito sold 17,200 vehicles in China.

Xiaomi reported 5,600 vehicle registrations, up 3.7% from 5,400 units the week before. In the first three weeks of January, Xiaomi sold 15,600 vehicles in China.

Deepal achieved 4,000 vehicle registrations, up 17.6% from 3,400 units the week before and up 25% from 3,200 in the same week a year ago. In the first three weeks of January, Deepal sold 11,000 vehicles in China.

Zeekr registered 3,600 vehicle registrations, up 28.6% from 2,800 units the week before and up 28.57% from 2,800 in the same week a year ago. In the first three weeks of January, Zeekr sold 11,400 vehicles in China.

Denza recorded 3,400 vehicle registrations, up 36% from 2,500 units the week before and up 70% from 2,000 in the same week a year ago. In the first three weeks of January, Denza sold 8,700 vehicles in China.

Luxeed achieved 3,200 vehicle registrations, up 6.7% from 3,000 units the week before. In the first three weeks of January, Luxeed sold 10,200 vehicles in China.

Nio reported 2,800 vehicle registrations, up 86.7% from 1,500 units the week before and up 47.37% from 1,900 in the same week a year ago. In the first three weeks of January, Nio sold 7,300 vehicles in China.

Onvo recorded 1,800 vehicle registrations, unchanged from the week before. In the first three weeks of January, Onvo sold 5,900 vehicles in China.

EV Insurance Registrations in China in Week 3 (W3) 2025

A picture of an undisguised Xpeng G7 undergoing testing had been exposed on the Chinese Internet. Furthermore, there is an official claim that the new G7 “may be the most capable SUV in the 250,000 class this year.” The number refers to the believed selling price of around 250,000 yuan (34,350 USD).

The picture only shows the rear of the new SUV. It is obvious from this picture and previous official and MIIT pictures that the forthcoming G7 uses the design language of the recently launched P7+.

Notably, however, the rear part of the tail light extends further into the tailgate than on the P7+.

The design features several elements to reduce the drag coefficient. Xpeng has previously communicated that one of the company’s aims is to improve range through efficiency. We should, therefore, expect the G7 to have a relatively low drag. Features include the hidden door handles and curved surfaces.

The G7 will feature Xpeng’s Hawk AI system, which delivers self-driving ability through a vision-based approach. The system debuted on the P7+ and will also be applied to the Mona M03. Xpeng is also busy releasing updated versions of the G6, G9, and X9 models incorporating the new system and deleting the expensive Lidar units.

In terms of length, the G7 is the brand’s largest SUV, beating out the G9 by all of 1 mm. The G7 has dimensions of 4892, 1925, 1655 mm (l/w/h), and the wheelbase is 2890 mm. Together with the smaller G6, it will form a two-pronged attack on the Tesla Model Y.

The G7 is powered by a 218KW TZ230XY01F30B electric motor supplied by the Wuhan division of Xpeng. Buyers are likely to have the choice of two different battery packs, both of which use lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by CALB.

Previously published spy shots of the interior of the G7 show that it has a layout very similar to that of the P7+ (see specs). As the sedan starts at well under 200,000 yuan (27,450 USD), Car News China believes that the G7 will have prices starting considerably below 250,000 yuan (34,350 USD).

Given the size of the new car, it may leave Xpeng’s G9 in a strange position in the range, seeing as it is also only a five-seater. It is believed that Xpeng will launch another new SUV this year which will be a 6-seater and is currently known as the G01. This will be the brand’s flagship SUV.
