Nio’s Onvo L60 delivered 20,000 units three months after the launch

Onvo is a middle-to-high-end brand launched by Nio to increase sales volume. Its first model, the Onvo L60, started sales on September 28 with a starting price of 149,900 yuan (21,200 USD) with BaaS (battery as a service). Three months after the deliveries started, Onvo reported it had sold 20,000 units of the L60 crossover.
Onvo L60 reaches the 20,000 delivery milestone
According to data from China EV DataTracker, the Onvo L60 delivered 832 units in the last three days of September. In October, 4,319 customers received this model. And November deliveries reached 5,082 units. It means Onvo sold 9,767 units of the L60 in 27 days of December, marking a huge sales boost.

Previously, Onvo officials underlined they aimed to exceed 10,000 deliveries in December. Bearing in mind this brand delivers around 360 units daily; Onvo will surely break this threshold. Early in December, the head of Onvo Xia Qinghua mentioned there was a battery availability problem for Onvo vehicles at Nio PSS (Power Swap Stations). This issue was caused by the production capacity of batteries.
Back to the Onvo L60’s sales number, this vehicle is positioned as the Tesla Model Y competitor. However, the Nio’s fastback SUV is still far away from being on par with the Model Y in terms of sales volume in China. For clarity, the American EV sold 44,576 units in November alone, becoming the second bestselling model in China after the low-priced BYD Seagull.
So, Onvo has a long way to go to convince buyers to pick the L60 instead of the Y. It isn’t only about making a better product, but about fighting the Tesla’s brand halo. As we can see now, the newcomer like Onvo struggles to compete with the Model Y.
