Xiaomi SU7 has a secret fish mode as demonstrated by one owner

While many EVs have a pet mode, a lesser-known function of the Xiaomi SU7 is the fish mode. Recently, a keen fisherman and Xiaomi SU7 owner demonstrated this after Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, publicized this usage.

Fish mode is perhaps an exaggeration, but when Lei Jun was originally publicizing the usage of the Xiaomi SU7’ss frunk, he mentioned that he could put the fish he caught in it and so prevent the smell that would otherwise accompany the fish if they were placed in the trunk.

The Xiaomi SU7 has one of the largest frunks currently available in the Chinese EV market. Like most frunks the 105-liter capacity unit is made of plastic. It is not lined, but at the bottom are two small rubber plugs that can be used to drain it of liquid.

This feature makes it very useful for carrying fish and allows the user to even put the fish in water. Equally, thanks to the drainage ability, this makes cleaning and scrubbing the frunk after such usage much easier. There is also meant to be a seal that stops liquid from leaking into other parts of the car.

In a video posted online a fishing enthusiast has loaded his Xiaomi SU7’s frunks with around seven large fish. These actually seem too big to fit in the trunk. Bystanders can be seen trying to see if the frunk is leaking; it’s not.

The Xiaomi SU7 was one of the sensations of 2024. Deliveries began in April, and by the end of the year, Xiaomi, which had previously never made a car, had managed deliveries of 135,000.

In his New Year’s broadcast Lei Jun laid out a sales target of 300,000 for 2025. This is likely on the conservative side given that deliveries of Xiaomi’s second model the YU7 should begin around the middle of the year.

The YU7 will be produced in the second phase of Xiaomi’s factory in Beijing. With the company already delivering over 20,000 SU7 models a month, the 300,000 target should easily be achievable.
