Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier spotted during road tests, deliveries set for 2026
The Xpeng modular flying car called Land Aircraft Carrier was seen during road tests in China. Previously, we had only seen the development mule of this giant car during the test stage. It seems that Xpeng has finally begun road tests of the production-ready Land Aircraft Carrier. Its deliveries are scheduled for 2026.

The Land Aircraft Carrier (LAC) is an ambitious project under Xpeng’s subsidiary Xpeng AeroHT. It has been operating since 2013. Previous products of the Xpeng AeroHT looked more like drones. However, the company revealed a new vision of its flying car in October last year, releasing a modular aircraft called Land Aircraft Carrier. It consists of two parts: a large three-axle vehicle and an aircraft for two people. In November 2024, the LAC performed its first public flight at the Chinese Zhuhai Air Show.

The Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier was seen in China during road tests. The spotted car retained the design language of the pre-production variant. It is a large vehicle with three axles and wide wheel arches. It has cameras instead of rearview mirrors. From the back, the LAC adopts two swing-out doors and a large rear windscreen. The latter has little use since there will be an aircraft inside blocking the view. However, it seems the rear windscreen is a governmental requirement. So, the Land Aircraft Carrier has it.

The LAC looks like a sturdy truck. However, Xpeng AeroHT tried to make it look more appealing. As a result, it has a sporty roof spoiler, flush door handles, and sleek A-pillars. Interestingly, this carrier was also spotted without the roof spoiler installed.
The Land Aircraft Carrier adopts test headlights. Another notable feature is two additional air intake units located in the front end. It seems those are active elements designed to keep the range extender of this vehicle cool. Previously, every display car had these air intakes closed. The front bumper of the LAC also has large air intakes. A mm-wave radar sits between them.
Inside, the Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier has big grab handles at A and B-pillars, and two rows of seats. It also has an odd-shaped steering wheel.

More about Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier
The Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier consists of two parts. The first one is the Mothership, a large three-axle carrier with an EREV powertrain and a length of 5.5 meters. It stands on an 800V platform and can run up to 1,000 km in EREV mode. Thanks to the 800V system, it can charge the aircraft from 30 to 80% in 18 minutes.
The aircraft looks like a sizeable drone. It can automatically land and dock with the carrier. To fit the trunk of the carrier, it folds its rotors. On a full charge, the aircraft can support 5-6 flights. It supports two driving modes: manual and automatic.
Xpen AeroHT announced that the Land Aircraft Carrier received 2,008 pre-orders from 12 customers (enterprises) at the Zhuhai Air Show. Previously, Xpeng AeroHT reported that it had received 1,000 orders after the carrier’s first display. Later in September, Xpeng received 150 orders for the modular flying car from two companies in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.
Deliveries of the Land Aircraft Carrier, which cost 2 million yuan (280,000 USD), are scheduled for 2026. Xpeng held the groundbreaking ceremony of the modular flying car manufacturing plant on October 27. It will start volume production with an annual capacity of 10,000 units in 2026. The factory will include four production workshops and ancillary facilities for painting and general assembly.
