The third car under BYD’s high end Yangwang brand the U7 opened pre-sales on October 15 at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Interested buyers need to put down 20,000 yuan (2,800 USD) to show an intent to purchase. There is still no news on actual prices, usually pre-sales comes with a price tag. Prices are likely to start north of 1 million yuan (138,400 USD).

The Yangwang U7 is taking by BYD standards a very long time to go on sale. The car debuted at the Beijing Auto Show in April. Furthermore back in July we reported that the car was reaching showrooms but still as yet the car has not started sales. In the meantime the car has attracted a lot of headlines. Recently a blogger has claimed that the U7 will debut with the Blade 2.0 battery. BYD themselves say that the U7 has a tighter turning radius of 4.85 meters than the company’s smallest car the BYD Seagull. This is largely due to the car having two-way 20-degree intelligent rear-wheel steering an agile steering function.

The Yangwang U7 (see specs) measures 5265, 1998, and 1517 mm (l/w/h) and has a wheelbase of 3160 mm. Despite weighing 3095 kg, it has a top speed of 270 km/h and a 2.9-second acceleration time. A drag coefficient of just 0.195 Cd aids performance.

The U7 is more powerful than the U9 and each motor has 326 horsepower for a total of 1306 horsepower. The YangWang U7 has four electric motors. Each has a peak power of 240 kW (rated power is 65 kW). The total power output of this saloon reaches 960 kW (1,287 hp). Range is meant to be 800 km with a 135.5 kWh blade battery. There is also another version with a range of 720 km.

It features the DiSus-Z suspension system, which replaces traditional hydraulic shock absorbers with electric motors. This enables suspension adjustments in as little as ten milliseconds and can also aid with battery energy recovery.

As yet there are still no clear pictures of the front seats, the best we have is some artwork and pictures through the windows. However, we can see that it has as symmetrical design with embedded displays for both the driver and passenger separated by a large vertically oriented infotrainment screen which may have a storage space behind it. So far we have largely seen pictures of a cars with a red interior although one picture suggests there may also be a brown interior option as well.

There are at least two versions of the Yangwang U7 with both four and five seat versions available. The four seater has a continuous center console running from the front which blends into a permanent arm rest. This contains an LCD display which presumably controls seat functions and climate control. On the five seater there is an LCD display on the back of the center console.

As mentioned the U7 seems to be taking far more time to go on sale than we expected, the MIIT listing was back in February! It still may be possible that deliveries will begin before the end of this year.
