During the market launch of the BYD Great Tang (Da Tang), company representatives reported that BYD has erected 6,682 flash chargers in 321 cities throughout China. Each connector can supply up to 1,500 kW DC, enabling a battery to go from 10% to 97% charge in just nine minutes.

BYD introduced its flash chargers on March 5, 2026. Officials from the Shenzhen-based automaker outlined a vision for a nationwide “Flash Charging China” infrastructure. The company’s initial plan called for 20,000 flash chargers to be operational across China by the close of 2026, with 2,000 of those located on highways.

As of April 1, BYD had installed its 5,000th flash charger, spanning 297 cities—a remarkable achievement in only 27 days. However, the pace of expansion soon decelerated. On May 5, the 5,715th charger was set up in Inner Mongolia, followed by the 5,979th unit on May 17. Over the past month, BYD added 703 chargers.

Consequently, by June 17, BYD had fulfilled 33.4% of its flash-charging installation target. In the second half of 2026, the company must deploy 13,318 additional chargers—a challenging goal given the current installation rate.

Simultaneously, BYD intends to set up 6,000 flash chargers outside China, including 3,000 stations in Europe. On June 9, the Chinese automaker inaugurated its first 1,500-kW charging station in Germany. The inaugural flash charger was also installed in the United Kingdom. According to Executive VP He Zhiqi, BYD plans to establish 300 flash chargers in the Middle Kingdom by the end of 2026.

Only new BYD models equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery can utilize flash chargers effectively. Previously, CITIC Securities projected that monthly sales of such vehicles will climb to 20,000–30,000 units, representing approximately 30% of BYD’s annual sales. Data from China EV DataTracker indicates that BYD sold 376,990 vehicles globally in May 2026.

The current lineup of BYD models supporting flash charging includes the Yangwang U7, Denza N9, Fang Cheng Bao Ti3, Fang Cheng Bao Ti7, BYD Seal 07, BYD Great Tang, BYD Sealion 06, BYD Song Ultra EV, Denza Z9 GT, Yangwang U8L, BYD Han EV, and BYD Yuan Plus (Atto 3).
