FAW-Volkswagen has officially unveiled the Jetta M6 electric sedan in China, marking a significant milestone as the brand's first battery-electric vehicle (BEV). The new model is positioned to compete directly with the Xpeng Mona M03 and the MG 07, as Volkswagen intensifies its efforts to expand its new energy vehicle (NEV) footprint in the Chinese market.
Jetta operates as an independent brand under the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture, established in 2019 with a focus on producing petrol-powered vehicles exclusively for the Chinese market. However, the shrinking internal combustion engine (ICE) segment in recent years has led to declining domestic sales for Jetta. According to China EV DataTracker, Jetta delivered 47,811 ICE vehicles in the first half of 2026, reflecting a 13.1% year-over-year decrease.
In response, Jetta has begun exporting its vehicles globally while simultaneously transitioning into the NEV sector. The brand has announced plans to introduce four new electric models to the Chinese market in the near future, with the Jetta M6 serving as the pioneering BEV.

The Jetta M6 is a mid-size sedan featuring a sleek roofline, sharp headlights, and a continuous taillight unit. It rides on 18-inch wheels and includes semi-hidden door handles, an active air intake in the front bumper, and a large sunroof. Official images display the top-trim model in purple, equipped with a surround-view camera system and front and rear parking sensors.
Measuring 4806/1868/1500 mm with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, the Jetta M6 is 26 mm longer than the Xpeng Mona M03, clearly targeting the same market segment. Notably, state-owned automaker SAIC recently commenced pre-sales of the MG 07 sedan, also aimed at the Mona M03, intensifying competition in China's BEV sedan segment.
The Jetta M6 comes standard with a single electric motor producing 113 kW (152 hp), with a top speed limited to 166 km/h. A more powerful variant adopts a 145 kW (194 hp) e-motor, reaching a top speed of 172 km/h. The curb weight of this electric sedan ranges from 1,557 to 1,628 kg. Details regarding the battery and range have not yet been disclosed.
