BYD’s premium Denza brand has officially revealed the Z9S sedan, showcasing a thoroughly reworked cabin, updated exterior styling, and a more compact body compared to the existing Denza Z9. Positioned as a separate sedan variant alongside the Z9 GT shooting brake, the Z9S joins the Z family with both single-motor and tri-motor powertrain options.
Earlier disclosures from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) had already outlined the model’s dimensions and single-motor configuration. Subsequent information from Denza confirmed the availability of a tri-motor all-wheel-drive version.
Z9S Cabin Gets a New Layout
Based on a real-vehicle reveal reported by Autohome, the Z9S adopts a completely redesigned interior that departs from the layout seen in the standard Z9. A new three-spoke steering wheel is fitted, while the instrument display is now integrated into the centre console area, finished with a straight-line piano-black lacquer surface.
A large floating central touchscreen dominates the dashboard. The report does not specify its size, resolution, or processor details.
Beneath the touchscreen, the centre console retains physical buttons for key functions such as Auto Parking, e³ (tri-motor independent drive platform), and DiSus (intelligent body control system). Other interior updates include redesigned side air vents and revised decorative trim on the door speaker grilles.
The seats feature updated headrest styling and diamond-pattern quilting. A control display is integrated into the rear centre armrest. Further seat functions, adjustment details, and material specifications remain undisclosed.
Z9S Gets a Shorter Body, Two Powertrains
The Denza Z9S measures 5,090 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,025 mm. Compared to the Denza Z9 sedan, it is 145 mm shorter, 10 mm narrower, 28 mm lower, and rides on a 100 mm shorter wheelbase.
Externally, the Z9S is distinguished by roof-mounted LiDAR, split headlights with upper LED strips and lower main light units, updated door handles, black window trim, large wheels with yellow brake callipers, revised rear lighting, and a redesigned rear bumper. It comes equipped with BYD’s DiPilot 300 LiDAR-assisted driving system (known as God’s Eye B in China). Detailed software functions, sensor specifications, and LiDAR operating parameters have not been disclosed. A “Flash Charging” badge on the rear identifies the vehicle as featuring BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery flash-charging system.
Multiple powertrain configurations are offered. MIIT filings list rear-wheel-drive single-motor variants producing 320 kW and 370 kW, both paired with a 102.326 kWh battery pack. The higher-output version achieves a CLTC range of 920 km.
The Z9S also offers an e³ tri-motor all-wheel-drive version delivering a combined output of 890 kW (1,194 hp). This variant uses the same 102.326 kWh battery pack and is rated with a CLTC range of 780 km.
The Z9S enters the Denza lineup after the brand posted 18,631 sales in June 2026, led by the D9 with 6,952 units and the Z9 GT with 6,025 units, according to China EV DataTracker. Pricing and delivery timing for the new sedan have not yet been announced.
