Denza, the premium sub-brand under BYD, has officially launched the refreshed N8L plug-in hybrid SUV in the Chinese market. The upgraded model boasts a significantly extended EV range of 430 km (CLTC) and introduces ultra-fast charging capabilities. Two trim levels are available, priced at 319,800 yuan ($47,200) and 349,800 yuan ($51,600).

Originally launched in late 2025 as a more affordable alternative to the Denza N9, the six-seat N8L came equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo PHEV powertrain and offered just 230 km of electric range. The updated version was first spotted in MIIT filings in mid-March, with pre-sales beginning on April 10.

What’s new with the N8L

BYD’s flash charging technology is the centerpiece of the N8L refresh. Denza claims a maximum DC fast-charging power of 728 kW. The SUV is now compatible with BYD’s rapid charging ecosystem, delivering:

  • 5 minutes from 10% to 70%
  • 9 minutes from 10% to 97%
  • Only 3 minutes slower at -30°C

These improvements are powered by a new 1000V architecture and an LFP battery pack boosted to 75.26 kWh — a roughly 60% increase over the previous 46.99 kWh pack. CLTC electric range has jumped from 230 km to 430 km.

Pricing and trims

The base price for the new N8L is 319,800 yuan ($47,200). The top-tier version, at 349,800 yuan ($51,600), adds 21-inch wheels, power doors, active seatbelt pretensioners, a 17.3-inch second-row screen, and a “zero-gravity” front passenger seat. However, the starting price has risen by 20,000 yuan (~$3,000) compared to the 2025 launch price of 299,800 yuan ($44,300).

Chassis and Specifications

The N8L measures 5,200 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,820 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm. Curb weight ranges from 2,980 to 3,120 kg depending on the trim. The suspension setup includes front dual wishbones and a rear five-bar multi-link layout.

BYD’s DiSus-A active suspension is also featured, along with a 10-degree rear-wheel steering (RWS) system that reduces the turning radius to 4.58 meters. Assisted driving is handled by the DiPilot 300 system, which pairs a roof-mounted LiDAR with three mmWave radars and seven cameras.

The Denza N8L rides on BYD’s e3 (Yi San Fang) tri-motor PHEV platform. This combines a 2.0T engine with a single front motor and dual rear motors. The petrol engine produces 150 kW (202 hp), while total system output reaches 560 kW (751 hp).

Inside, the N8L uses a 2+2+2 seating layout. The first and second rows are equipped with heated, massaging, and ventilated seats as standard, while the third row only gets heating. A 17.3-inch infotainment screen dominates the front, and the front passenger gets a 13.2-inch display.

More on Denza and the N8L

According to China EV DataTracker, Denza delivered 2,032 N8L units domestically in May 2026. After its late 2025 launch, sales peaked at 6,510 units in December 2025 before declining due to the partial phase-out of NEV subsidies. Although current sales are slow, the addition of flash charging and a longer EV range should boost the N8L’s appeal. Notably, Denza is offering an exclusive 10,000 yuan (~$1,500) rebate to BYD and Mercedes-Benz owners, a possible nod to their former joint venture.
