XPeng officially launched its MONA L03 smart SUV at a global event in Munich, Germany, on Thursday. The Chinese automaker announced that the vehicle will be available in 65 countries and regions, covering China, Europe, and other overseas markets.

This launch represents a significant step in XPeng's international expansion strategy. Unlike previous models that debuted first in China, the MONA L03 is the company's first vehicle introduced simultaneously worldwide. By choosing Munich—a central hub of Europe's automotive industry—XPeng signals its intent to compete directly with established global manufacturers.

In China, the MONA L03 is priced from RMB 123,800 ($18,280) and is offered in both battery-electric (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions. European pricing starts at €35,600 ($40,720) for the BEV variant, while the EREV version begins at €38,600 ($44,150), positioning the SUV in the region's mainstream electric segment.

Efficiency and driving range are key highlights. The all-electric MONA L03 delivers up to 650 km of CLTC range with energy consumption as low as 11.5 kWh per 100 km. The extended-range model provides 325 km of pure-electric CLTC range and a combined range of up to 1,380 km, with WLTC fuel consumption of 4.96 liters per 100 km in charge-sustaining mode.

AI technology is central to the vehicle's design. Every MONA L03 is equipped with XPeng's proprietary Turing AI chip. The Max version offers 750 TOPS of computing power, while the Ultra SE variant reaches 1,500 TOPS.

Built on XPeng's second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model, the SUV features a single autonomous driving foundation model adaptable to both Chinese and European road conditions. Starting in 2027, XPeng plans to introduce localized Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP) driver-assistance features to global markets.

The international version runs XOS 6, XPeng's latest in-car operating system, which supports mixed-language voice recognition in English, German, French, and other languages, and can understand natural conversational and emotion-aware commands.

Premium interior features include a 26.8-inch wide head-up display (W-HUD), a 20-speaker AI audio system, a front passenger zero-gravity seat, and 14-point massage functionality.

Designed by former Ferrari designer Juanma López, the MONA L03 incorporates XPeng's Vital Flow design language and achieves a drag coefficient of 0.228 Cd. The SUV comes standard with an all-scenario tire blowout stabilization system and driver incapacitation assistance.

The launch underscores XPeng's broader global ambitions. The company is advancing its "In Europe, for Europe" strategy by establishing an R&D center in Munich and partnering with Austrian automotive supplier Magna for localized manufacturing.

XPeng also plans to build more than 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across Europe by 2028, expanding its overseas charging infrastructure.

For XPeng, the MONA L03 represents more than a new model—it serves as a critical test of the company's global expansion strategy. By choosing Munich for the global debut and launching simultaneously across 65 countries and regions, XPeng aims to strengthen its overseas market presence.

However, with intensifying competition in Europe, shifting trade policies, and pressure from established local automakers, it remains uncertain whether XPeng can convert this launch into sustained sales growth and increased market share.
